I think you'll have to buy it or your son / daughter will be bringing it up in 20 years time lol!0

So who is in charge of the budget here?
It isn't just the money - you would be making a young child a magnet for thieves and muggers and this can't be right.
The best interests of the child must come first.
If the child won't accept anything less this makes things simple - if the child doesn't want a different phone then buy them a different present. Or if the child doesn't want anything then don't buy them anything. Spend quality time with them instead.0 -
a 9 year old with any phone is ridiculous but an iphone?
i understand u want to talk directly to her but a budget phone will do just fine for thatWhat goes around-comes around0 -
I will be in charge of the budget. Looks like we are going to go with virgin £15 unlimited calls, text and data.
Nope. Don't do it.
You cant cap a virgin account.
You can still make premium rate calls and texts.
One accidental call and your bill can be in the £100's.
I strongly suggest you take the advice I and others have given you above.0 -
My DD has a Tesco capped tariff, and she has never got near the calls/text cap, but when she hits the data cap the phone stops accessing the internet - we've never had a bill over the expected amount. You can go onto the online account and buy an add-on for extra data.... I haven't experienced Tesco, but worth asking the question is it's a guaranteed cap, or whether it just shuts down once they get info to suggest it has hit cap, meaning their could be additional spending in the meantime. ...0 -
Isn't the bigger question - would you give a 9 / 10 year old unfiltered, uncensored internet access (on a phone) ?
I'll be getting my kids dumb old nokias for emergencies0 -

Me and my ex have spoken to her. The good think about Virgin its month to month contract and can be stopped at anytime. My only issue with Tesco is the 12 months?? If we have to take the phone away I will still have to pay for it. I discussed the 08 numbers and mms messages and she will only use Whats App when doing so. She is fully aware the phone will be taken away if she racks up a big bill.0 -
Your best bet would be GiffGaff, it uses the O2 network and is IMPOSSIBLE to spend more than you budget for. You are also not tied into a contract.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

So they can google "Egyptians having sex." That would be my slightly older niece, before her parents installed parental controls on the laptop. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
