If you had a receipt that didn't have collected stamped on it, then they might well have refunded you.
Of course no organisation, self respecting or not, is going to refund a customer that they believe has already collected the goods.
Sadly, without that unmarked receipt, you will lose this argument.0 -
By the way, I'm not asking for your opinions on my character. The fact that I left it so long and lost receipt is another matter. I am not asking if you think it was a wise thing to do or not.:)
All I am asking is whether Homebase should do what they did or not and whether I can do anything about it.
To Fosterdog. That's a valid point. But I think it is unlikely as the receipt did not say: uncollected.0 -
Their system says it was collected.
What proof do you have that you did not collect it? Zero.
What else can Homebase do?0 -

As far as I know they the store held them for x amount of time (of which I dont know but am sure easy to find out) and you didnt collect them for whatever reason. If it were me yes I would be annoyed I didnt collect the items but wouldn't expect the store to do anything that was essentially my own fault.
Still cant believe you or your husband didnt collect said items. Just a thought but as you paid for the items would the store not want to see the payment card eg to verify the person who paid is the 1 collecting, again I have no idea on the policy for this, maybe someone can shed more light.jonesa7777 wrote: »Thanks for your replies.
To: marliepanda. If I didn't have it, somebody must have had. I said to the manager that it is either a mistake or somebody deliberately altered the details. In any case should he not try and look into it? To try and find out who made that note on the system and when??
Altered what details on the system ?jonesa7777 wrote: »By the way I feel it is unfair because I think any self respecting organisation should refund any uncollected items, they had my card details. Maybe the items were collected before the date where the items were sent back to the supplier/warehouse or whatever so had no need to refund you.0 -
Your problem is that Homebase has an entry on its system that the items were collected.
For all they know, you gave the receipt to your husband who wasn't interested in collecting the fence panels or putting them up, and saw a chance to make a few quid so gave/sold the receipt to a man down the pub, who happily collected the panels and now has a nice new fence. Meanwhile, your husband has been stringing you along, making excuses and hoping you'll eventually forget about it.
Note: not saying that the above really did happen, just that Homebase neither know nor care who presented the receipt or where the fence panels are now - after all you don't have to produce identification to collect items.I'm a retired employment solicitor. What OP may be able to do is ask homebase what security measures they have in place to ensure that the person collecting is the person that paid.
Most of the time when collecting in store, I've always been asked to present the card used to make the purchase.
IMO Essentially the store have agreed to accept delivery on OP's behalf and are under a duty to take reasonable care of the goods. Whether they have failed that duty or not could go either way (again imo) but I don't think its quite as clear cut as others have said. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Good point.
On every occasion that I have bought online from the Homebase website for collection in store, the item is reserved for a given period of time and I have had to pay in store on collection.
So I have just been onto the website and ordered a fence panel and received a message stating that the item will be held for three hours commencing 12 noon the next day. Pay in store, No way to pay online, and no card details requested.
On that basis, I'm out!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
OP - have you checked your statements in case they have refunded the money?
I know with some places where I have ordered, and paid, online for an in store collection that the delivery notification says that if I don't collect within a given period the item will be returned to stock and my card will be recredited. Perhaps homebase has done the same.0 -
Does anyone else think it strange that a person would order a significant item such as fence panels and forget about them for 8 months? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Wish I could afford to do that.
You would be surprised how often this happens.
Where I work there is a similar ordering system ,customers are given a quick call after 7 days to remind them their order hasn't been collected at 14 days the goods are returned to stock .
A record of the call and the invoice is kept but after 12 months this is destroyed, at this point the customer has no come back as the order is removed from the system. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
