What rule/guideline is that?
You're just making stuff up now. The people that want to overtake should be following rules 138, 139, 140( if large vehicle), 141, 142 and adhering to the also previously quoted 143 which includes "DO NOT overtake ... when you would force another vehicle to swerve or slow down "
Spot on. Do not overtake, - do not overtake me, if I'm overtaking the car in front of me, and you think you can force me to swerve back in.0 -

Really yes, a car in a none emergency situation has to adhere to the road rules just like everyone else.0 -

"Even if doing 70 in the outside lane, most people would make an effort to get out of the way for a Police car that has flashing lights, sirens on, and horn blazing." was the actual phrase - And that's the problem with the self proclaimed superior, safe at any speed brigade, they see only what they believe, rather than reality. Which is why they need limits imposed, as they really are dangerous if left in their world.0 -
Advisory low limits on tight slip roads are really annoying. I used to commute from Herts into East London, and so would daily come off the M25 onto the M11, where there was something like a 40mph advisory as it tightened. When driving my bog-standard saloon, it was steady as a rock at 70. In my Elise, it was fine at 100. I have no idea who the target driver was and in which supposed vehicle for 40 to be advised, but the only real effect of it would be to convince people that the road engineers were having a laugh.
And then there are sliproads that could do with signs that don't have any (I wonder how much trouble we'd get into if we moved them?)
The sliproad from M2(e) to A249(n) ends at a hairpin protected lane on the side of a large roundabout. There are lots of foreign lorries in the area, and many of them have shed their loads there.0 -
You lose the bet; I've got an hour's drive each way.
It may have been a ridiculous thing to say, but not so ridiculous as matttye's suggestion that I walk. Not even close.
It was a tongue in cheek suggestion, not meant to be taken seriously.
Going 60 in a 70 is fine so long as you're not also a middle lane hogger. I would just overtake you. What will your verse be?

generally, i try not to hold up others. if i can pull over, if i see someone is quite impatient behind me , i probably wouldn't mind. the problem with asking the question i did, in a public forum, is i'll often get answers from ppl's sense of frustration and impatience, rather than good driving or from whatever is legal.
i do believe that if everyone drove slower, there would be far fewer accidents. i often feel quite a bit of pressure to keep up with others. i don't think it's a lack of confidence because i can drive faster, i just don't find it comfortable.
Do you sit in the inside lane when doing 55/60 on the motorway, or sit in the middle lane?
We have a lot of 'middle lane morons' here who pootle about in the middle lane at 55 - I've got no issue with the speed, just keep left.0 -

The ones that usually get most wound up are the brigade that insist "it's the speedo reading slow, and you can do 10% more anyway, so it's 34 in a 30 limit, 45 in a 40, 67 in a 60.... " guess what, pass me then. Somehow, they're never happy to break the speed limit from the front, but have no problem speeding behind others. Moronic sheep, that can only follow.
We have plenty of those around here!0 -
If I was in a good mood and a decent song was on the radio, I would be pleasant, give you space and probably have a giggle at your level of caution.
If I was in a bad mood, I would probably be making exaggerated gestures in the hope you would spot me through your mirror and speed up (note, I have never had anybody speed up...it obviously doesn't work!).
I will never speed up behind somebody though, nor will I flash them or overtake. Not that I mind others doing it...I'm just a bit of a wimp when it comes to overtaking.
My mother and I always have this conversation...although she isn't a slow driver in general, she will often drive on the middle lane of the motor way at about 60mph. When I suggest she moves over, she is always very defensive, saying it's not an aim, but a limit. She does have a point but I've received so many glares from other drivers, I honestly don't know how she stays so ignorant.
I do think that slow drivers can cause just as many accidents as fast drivers...although I imagine that the majority of these accidents involve those drivers who choose to drive faster than the rest!
No she doesn't have a point, she's an idiot.
She needs to move over into the inside lane when it's clear, or put up with people like me sitting behind her with high beams on until she does.
People like this drive me mad. Learn to drive, or get off the road.0 -
The only time I drive slowly (apart from where the conditions/limits demand it) is when some absolute idiot is tailgating me and trying to break the speed limit. They do this to intimidate other drivers into going faster than the limit as well. I just drive slower. And even slower. Then, if there's a derestriction, I often boot it and leave them in the dust. Then let them catch up and repeat it. there are no badges on the rear which would tell them it's a 2.0 liter turbo with 140 PS, so they are quite surprised when I leave them behind.
And before anyone says that I am wrong to do this: what else can one do, to retaliate against intimidation by dangerous drivers?
If I had a car with only 140ps, I wouldn't want other people knowing either. You talk about it like it's an F1 car, whereas I'm willing to bet it's a diesel Audi A3 or something.0
