I may adjust my speed downward depending on the prevailing circumstances. On motorways I drive at 70mph or below depending on circumstances. I am mindful of other traffic and do not hold them up but neither will i be intimidated into driving illegally or faster than i consider safe. If they choose to speed past..well up to them.0

Why 70mph? Everyone knows the "average" and "acceptable" speed is at least 80.
Couldn't you just sit behind the flow of traffic in Lane 2 at 2 or 3 mph less than your desired speed? Or accelerate to perform the overtake and then pull back in again?
Overtaking people doing 68 whilst doing 70mph yourself puts you in the same class as HGV drivers overtaking each other on a dual carriage way. It's plain inconsiderate.
doing 68mph in lane 2 is perfectly fine because people can overtake in lane 3 ... unless there is some klutz doing 70.
Overtaking someone at 2mph more than they're doing is always taking the p1ss.
So let's see if I've got this right -
1. The 'average' and 'acceptable' speed on a motorway is at least 80mph. So according to you I should be breaking the law - like the average and acceptable drivers do?
2. I'm a plain inconsiderate Klutz to drive at 70mph - the maximum speed allowed in the UK?
3. I should tuck in behind those who wish to drive at 65 to 68mph in lane 2 and leave lane 3 free for the people who wish to drive at speeds in excess of the legal limit.
No chance of me agreeing with any of that rubbish.
What a load of verbal diarrhea. Unfortunately you are not alone it seems, in wishing that legal drivers keep out of the way of those who wish to break the law.
The law may be out of date or wrong - but ignoring it, or breaking it - is nothing other than anarchy - and not the best way forward.
If people want to exceed the speed limit then they should contact their MP and/or start a campaign to get it raised - I will be the first to support them.0 -

Either that, or overtake properly and pull back in again.
Awwwand you were doing so well!
Indeed, we're the "average" motorists. There's loads of us ... try looking in your mirror, they're the ones scowling at you.
Traffic offences are not criminal.
It's been campaigned for for years. Do you not read the news?
So you really are saying I should break the law?0 -
Reading a few threads and thinking how would some cope with a 2 lane motorway.0

The rest are just tying their shoes and have more interesting things to think about.0 -
I don't tie my shoelaces in the morning; I slip my shoes on.0

Driving responsibly isn't rocket science - but some people just don't seem to get it.
Co-operate and drive with consideration for others, and everyone gets there quickly and safely.0 -

If you feel that you absolutely must travel at 70, rather than the 65-68, then overtake with purpose and pull back in. You could even manage 75 temporarily with both a traffic police car behind you and going under a speed camera on an overhead gantry. Neither would even notice you or care.
Just don't pull out and dawdle past causing people to queue up behind you ... quite simply because of this ...What do I get several times but some joker obviously exceeding the 70 limit by a fair amount, comes hard up behind - horn blaring and lights flashing.
One car in particular had several passengers making rude gestures as they passed when I pulled back into lane two.0
