YOU are not the Police. How about you let them do their job, and you keep the roads flowing freely by following some fairly simple guidelines that quite clearly state DO NOT make other people slow down?
I've not once quoted law, I've quoted a single section of the highway code. I've used the word "law" once or twice as a tongue in cheek response to continue the argument. I'll keep going for as long as you likeI quite simply couldn't disagree more with your stance.
If you keep it up for 3 more posts, I'll award you the rank of "Road Captain - First Class" which will be thoroughly deserved. You'll be able to pickup your stripes from your nearest regional office.
It's an old 2001 SLK 200K (R170). As to rank of Road Captain, guess you're the self appointed Commander in Chief then. And you seem to have difficulty reading, ---you can break the law by going down the hard shoulder if you need to pass, me, I really won't care, break as many laws as you want to, knock yourself out have fun chugging along in the clapped out Merc. You just won't be pushing me along in front of you. You'll be following at 70, until I've completed my overtake, then you can carry on chugging along at 80.0 -

Nice try, but had you actually paid attention, that Merc was a car I'd bought to sell and has no MOT. It's not "road legal" (Oh no, arrest me captain!) and is therefore sat outside my house awaiting repair. So once again, you have no idea what I drive and can presume what you like.
I do , however, think you've missed my point. Having to following at 70 is fine, however pulling out to overtake someone who is doing 68, taking an age to complete the overtake because you're only going 2mph faster, and all the while making people slow down is NOT fine - this is where I started from.0 -
The principle on overtaking in advanced driving is "making progress". If you are clearly passing other cars at a reasonable pace then you can overtake at whatever speed you choose, so if there happens to be a heavy load being overtaken by a lorry, 60mph in the overtaking lane may be quite adequate, you are not under an obligation to rise to 70mph to go in the 3rd lane of the motorway.
So the two overtaking lanes on a motorway are for overtaking. If you are doing say 65 and there is obviously a lorry shortly ahead then you should not necessarily feel obliged to clear the lane - hopping in and out is considered worse than staying too long in a lane.0 -

I may adjust my speed downward depending on the prevailing circumstances. On motorways I drive at 70mph or below depending on circumstances. I am mindful of other traffic and do not hold them up but neither will i be intimidated into driving illegally or faster than i consider safe. If they choose to speed past..well up to them.
Totally agree, I do the same.0 -
My journey to work is almost entirely nsl on a single carriageway, it has a lot of bends, but it is perfectly safe to take all the bends at 55mph, despite this it isn't uncommon to find people doing 30 mph. As a result I find myself having to take bends this slowly as otherwise I risk ploughing into someone who ain't capable of driving at a safe speed and in a safe manner.
A few weeks ago now I was driving on the A1/M going to Newcastle, I was over taking a lorry, I was around level with the lorrys cab and a car pulled out into the middle lane, I'm doing almost 70mph as I'm getting ready for a gap to pull back in. The idiot who pulls in front of me is not only too close, after I had to slam my brakes on, according to my sat nav they were doing 55mph, I nearly hit them, on a motorway that is a life and death situation.
If you can't drive safely at the speed limit, at least make sure you are driving safely under the limit, really, you shouldn't go 10% over or under the speed limit, out of these limits is considered unsafe unless you have a visible speed restriction notice on your vehicle so other road users can prepare for your speed.0 -

You missed my point. I'll overtake, legally. Beyond that, tough, bite the steering wheel.0 -
Personally i ride in normal speed ..if it is 40 , i will ride 40 km.. if anyone behinds me getting frustrated about my riding , i would gave a way to go front and do whatever it is..Clickgiftstoindia.com0

Guess that's why bikes are safer than cars, because even advanced motorists are told to take them into account, and they're superior to the rest of us simple drivers as well. We're only taught not to exceed limits when we're taught to drive.
Er, what?..
Someone asked about the attitude to speed imits in advanced driving, and I said what the police bikers told me on the advanced courses I did with them.
I'm not sure what your point is, but mine was that they definitely did NOT tell us to stick religiously to the higher limits.
They DID, however, tell us to get right up to the lower limits when it was safe to do so.0 -

No, that's not been said. What has been said is that the blanket assertion by some, that lower speeds "MUST" be safer is clearly not proven as, for example, it is possible that attention drifts more at lower speeds.
Please, do stick to what has been said, not your altered version of it that people are not arguing.0
