Insurance Rip Off Merchants

Hi,
I purchased 4x4 and I didn't know at first it was classed under commercial. So the priced were sky high. Secondly I got it right down to £602 with breakdown cover, legal cover and windscreen cover. However I did quite a few quotes before returning to this original quote. It was about an hour since I returned, in that space
of time van direct the broker had put up the quote £30 more.
I honestly thought that a quote should last at least 24Hrs.
I contact after full payment of insurance premium and they said it fluctuates. should I demand my £30 back, or do they reserve that right. thanks in advance.

If you made a note of the previous quote reference then you can get it at the lower price.

Always worth asking to match the original price.

    Where is the rip off?

Consumer buys product at price agreed is not a rip off.
However I did quite a few quotes before returning to this original quote.

That may be the problem. Some sites have anti-fraud measures which increase premium if someone is changing information.

    Hi,
I actually done a few comparison sites like confused.com, go compare and compare the market. I put in all the same details,
this was actually on my fourth attempt same details exactly with
money super market. when van direct came up and was the cheapest quote at £602, in the space of an hour as I viewed other comparison sites this went up £30, there is the rip off right there.
How can they justify this. Please don't accuse me of putting in different details, when it's just not true. It cannot fluctuate £30
in one hour, I have already read different posts on here about insurance companies guaranteeing there quote for 60 days.
This quote should have lasted at least 24Hrs, this is about loyalty
and honour. why do you think we shop around in the first place.

    Thanks

Where's the loyalty in shopping around?.
  • If it isn't for commercial use why buy a 4x4 in the first place? To be honest your quote sounds reasonable for that kind of vehicle and the people who drive them.

I'd have thought that the majority of 4x4s are used privately rather than commercially

Two words that have insurers reaching for dictionaries, followed by sniggering all round.

Where did you get that from?

Edited to add: I'm imagining a landrover type thing & can't see that the OP says

I'd agree in expecting it to be a pick up as the majority of pick up trucks now need commercial insurance as they are that big now a days that private car policies won't touch them. Or it's a long wheel base 4x4 and can handle more than 7 passengers?
If you played with the quote then it could be that the system detected playing and activated anti fraud measures. Or you changed a few things which has increased rather than decreased the premium
