Now I'm confused
The bit where I've said to Shoosh to cover her ears / eyes?
If so, sadly (and I'm sure Shoosh will agree), vets aren't taught a whole lot about animal food / nutrician when they're learning to be a vet - Shoosh posted some figures on PF a while back - some students hadn't had any tuition in it so far
Most do sadly rely on the huge quantity of pet prescription foods that are produced & recommend these when, in fact, there are often other alternatives and, in some cases, these can be much better (eg I know people who've been recommended a prescription dry food for cats with kidney problems when we all know they should be getting as much fluid as poss & wet is best!)
If you're not wondering about that bit ......

Shoosh is a vet? THAT would explain...why you asked her to cover ears/eyes.....

You guys make me chuckle with your Shooshing. It's Shosh.

Right - been to the vets with Teddy today for his post dental check up so had a chat about Fred.
Vet recons renal diet is the best way so looked again at Zooplus and Animed.
Considering Fred is only wet food cat - ther are few options but can not decide which one to go for?
scratching head....
Animed got Purina, Hills, Royal Canin in renal version.
Zooplus's Beaphar and Integra got great reviews but what about it's real quality/suitability?

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/canned_cat_food_pouches/integra/integra_protect_cat_food/62685
Honest I would prefer to order from Zooplus as I order all my dog/cat food/litter from there and would be easier to order once per month as a neighbour takes my delivery for me so do not want to bother her with various things arriving on various days...
Beaphar offers a trial mixed flavour pack which is brilliant - Integra does not, neither does Royal Canin
BUT Beaphar has some note about feeding for 2-4weeks - ???????
I am leaning towards Integra or Royal Canin....
Any suggestions/pointers please?
Need to order food for Zara tonight/tomorrow morning and would like to add Fred's new food too... sighhhh

Hills do a money-back guarantee if your cat does not eat the food. I'm not sure if this applies only to food purchased via your vet or elsewhere as well, but if you do consider Hills it might be worth ordering the first lot through the vet so you can get a refund if Fred turns his nose up.
Is he a fussy eater?0 -
As I recall, the guarantee is valid wherever you buy from ie if you call Hills they will authorise a refund from any retailer.Shoshannah wrote: »Hills do a money-back guarantee if your cat does not eat the food.0 -
Thanks - he is a VERY fussy eater. Always has been.
Anything I have - he HAS to try and that includes papadoms, plain rice, pasta, all veg etc etc.. sigh....
If Fred was my only cat, I doubt I would be buying any cat food at all.
He likes raw, gets occasional chicken wing or mince. He LOVES cheddar and philadelphia and dairylea - any cheese.
Cat food - no treats EVER were worth HIS attention - the rest of my boys (got 4 cats) would kill for dreamies etc , Fred never interested.
He will have his Animonda and Butchers Classic - that is it as far as Fred is concerned re cat food.
What you think of Integra linked above?
As it is from Animonda, I am hopeful he will eat it...
How is cheddar and or raw looking with his kidney issues? Give more? Stop giving?
