And as for "Respect for privacy goes both ways...(note to walkers = take an ultrasonic gadget that stops dogbarking with you in case of dogs having been "let loose" near you was a tip I have been given and will remember that in case it happens again)."

Advice given in response to someone who was experiencing land owners using large dogs left roaming free unattended to intimidate walkers. Perhaps that kind of advice, as misguided as it is, wouldn't be shared if as you suggest respect was shown the other way ;)

Unfortunately, you get some self-absorbed land owners like captainMeMeMe here trying to make life a pain for ramblers, so ramblers end up thinking that all land owners are trouble causers. Some walkers are also entirely improperly behaved, and that leads to land owners doing the same.

I would love for you to find a property on right move in a rural location with working farm attached with minimum 150 acres (these were my requirements while looking for a property) without a footpath close to the house in north staffordshire/north derbyshire but not in the peak district

No one forced you to buy it though, you accepted it at the time and now you are trying to change it even though you don't really use that bit of the garden, you do realise you sound more than a bit self centred.

  • Once that you noticed.

Unless you are saying you monitor the path 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

no but there is usually somebody at home working outside pretty much every day who would have noticed

I don't know why someone would buy a house with a footpath through the garden if they didn't want the public to have access through their property.

Exactly right so jog on :rotfl:

  • Hello

I live in a very rural location with a large garden, which has a public foot path going through it.

When I bought it, it didn't really bother me because I'm in the middle of know where and I thought no one would use it any way.

I know I can have the foot path removed or moved but no one has used the foot path since I moved in a few years ago so I haven't bothered.

But this last couple of weeks some rambling group has starting using it, I politely asked them if they could use a different route to which they replied 'but it's one of our favourite bits walking through your beautiful garden'

I wanted to know if anyone has any experience removing or just moving public footpaths and if they had any tips of what to do.

I am a bit worried that the rambling police will try and block it out of principle even though it has been unused for years until recently.

    Part time ramblers, eh?

They go for a ramble once a decade or so???

i give up, by money saving experts I expected responses from some informed people about their experiences of dealing with these issues. I was clearly very mistaken...

I have experience with these issues, I took part in the prosecution here of several landowners including a local authority for illegally obstructing, failing to maintain or closing footpaths at the time when the law on them here was broadly similar to the law in England.
