How to Remove Public Footpath

The previous owners of my house managed it and rather conveniently the local council even paid for everything including paying for a footbridge over a small brook.
However you need to have a very good reason why the footpath should be moved and in my case there were very clear safety reasons which more than justified the move.Every generation blames the one before...

You knew the situation when you bought the place.
That wasn't very wise of you to ask people not to use a public footpath they are perfectly entitled to use. My response to your "request" would not have been a polite one and you would have found I had gone off and encouraged a lot more people to use it and not been describing you in any very complimentary terms.0 -
To add a bit more context we own all the land around the house about 200 ares all tenanted, all I want to do is for the footpath to not go through our garden, we have plenty of land to divert it through.
I know it can be done, because my neighbors have done it years ago.
My suggestion would be to just divert the route around the garden instead of through the garden.
I don't know why people would want to walk through somebody garden anyway.
I understand that some people have a sense of entitlement to walk through peoples land and gardens but I would have thought they'd have some respect for privacy.
I have already closed down the stables because I was fed up of self absorbed types trotting around the lanes.
Interesting idea putting up a huge fence along side all the footpaths, I know one tenant has had 10 sheep killed by rogue dogs this year and irresponsible ramblers can be a huge problem."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

I don't know why someone would buy a house with a footpath through the garden if they didn't want the public to have access through their property.0 -

what you would be anoyed by me politely asking you not to walk through my garden, please use that other foot path which is 20 meters away."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

It very hard to find a house in the country side with 200acres attached with out footpaths through it. All I am doing is asking advice from people who have moved footpaths before and any tips they have"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

There can't be many that have the footpath through the garden rather than through the 200 attached acres.0 -
You've asked and been told repeatedly its difficult. But basic research could have shown you that, whatever your situation (i.e. attached land)0
