Really? One of our favourite walks goes through someone's garden, and it's a pleasure to look at. Why wouldn't I enjoy that? If they are sitting outside, we politely ignore them to give them some privacy (unless they say hello, which sometimes they do. At that point we compliment them on their beautiful garden, have a brief chat about the weather and move on). By all means try and move the footpath, but don't make enemies of the ramblers0 -
There can't be many that have the footpath through the garden rather than through the 200 attached acres.
Seeing as the footpaths were originally routs taken by workers from farm to farm most did originally go straight to the front door, but many people have been able to move these and divert them around the newly established gardens. Hence me asking for advice on peoples experiences on moving them."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

i know its difficult, thats why i am asking peoples advice on their experiences and any tips they can give."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

Please don't use the footpath outside my house, it's close to my front window and I don't like it. While you're at it if you could not use the road as well that would be great, I'd much prefer to have it to myself
They aren't walking through your garden any more than you are stealing public land for your own garden. They are using a public footpath exactly as it is intended; it is you, and you alone, that is being unreasonable by wanting to do away with a public path for your own benefit.
As others have said, it is possible to re-route paths but it isn't easy or anything like guaranteed. If your neighbour has already done it then why exactly are you asking on here and not asking them?Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. I understand that some people have a sense of entitlement to walk through peoples land and gardens but I would have thought they'd have some respect for privacy.
.
It isn't a wish to walk through someones garden. I doubt walkers regard it in that light. I would say most of us want to use a footpath that has, possibly, been there for hundreds of years. There is a very good chance that the footpath was there first and the use of some adjoining land as someones garden came later.
I certainly don't think "Whoopee...walking through someones garden" at that point. I just wish the land adjacent to the footpath was still whatever-it-had-been previously (possibly rough land) and mentally blank out that a bit of land nearby is now being used as someone's garden in the 20th/21st century. The fact that a bit of the footpath border is someones garden is totally irrelevant to me personally and I would imagine to most walkers. We just walk through from A - Z and respect the fact we aren't allowed on that bit of adjacent land (ie because it is a garden these days) and think no more of it.
I doubt many of us are trying to ogle the garden or anyone or anything in it and from our pov I would certainly have appreciated if a nearby garden owner I was studiously not looking at on a recent walk hadn't accidentally on purpose let his large (if friendly) dog come bounding around near me and jumping up at me. Respect for privacy goes both ways...(note to walkers = take an ultrasonic gadget that stops dogbarking with you in case of dogs having been "let loose" near you was a tip I have been given and will remember that in case it happens again).0 -

Its not public land, its a public right of way.
I am just suggesting to move that right away, I think most reasonable people would understand.
Are you really asking why i'm asking on here? just one persons experience 30 years ago isnt much help, i'm asking for people who have done this recently."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -

b) they are required to remain on the path not wander willy nilly, you would soon be shouting loudly were the latter the case
c) clearly your garden is a pleasant sight, therefore making the walk worthwhile (at certain times of the year presumably)0 -

House and garden was there first, i've checked on historic maps."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
a) it is a public footpath giving them the right to do
b) they are required to remain on the path not wonder willy nilly, you would soon be shouting loudly were the latter the case
c) clearly your garden is a pleasant sight, therefore making the walk worthwhile (at certain times of the year presumably)
Having the right to do something doens't make me want to do it"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0
