Got letter today giving raw scores & explaining standardisation so here goes -

    Paper 1 48
    Paper 2 55
    Paper 3 46

    So best 2 papers (48 + 55) = 103 out of 128 = 80%

    AQE score 103

Workingmumof2 - it will be interesting to compare with your raw scores as we both ended up with AQE score of 103.

NI Mum - Thanks for posting your scores - I have noticed that your sons best 2 papers added to give 105 points and this translated to an AQE score of 107
yet my sons best 2 papers added to give 103 and this only translated to an AQE score of 103
So I am wondering did the June birthday attract 2 more AQE marks - who knows ?

As I said before, the more people who post their raw scores on here, the better for those who still have more AQEs ahead of them !

Think I posted earlier that my son did not achieve as high as score as we thought he would and now that I have his scores I can see why. His 1st paper was 75% and the 3rd paper was 72% - both of these scores are well below what he had been scoring in the months leading up to the real tests. He was always in the 80s and sometimes in the 90s & other kids in his class who were often in the 90s have all come out with scores around 105 and 107.

I had been told some months ago that AQE had noticed scores creeping up over the years and felt that people were now used to the system so I can't help wondering have they made the tests a bit harder? ;)
  • All results should be banded and not with marks. The difference between 124 and 120, does it mean one is smarter at this age? It was suppose to be a measure of standard where the Goverment can intervene if not good enough. And primary school getting warning letters for coaching while others don't give a hoot and not finish the syllabus. Scandelous. Here is the difference.

Yes I agree with you Flymetothemoon that could be It tho not sure its always as simple as that. Have you noticed the lower scores dont really add up? 66% giving an aqe score of 88 and 54% 78? Cant really work that out.

My son was'nt very consistent in the practice tests highest 92 lowest 70 so I wasnt sure what to expect tho his classmates have all been pretty much spot on what they were expecting.quite a few high scores but also a few lower ones. Likealot if them my son did best in the test he found the most difficult the 2nd..He also got an A in the gl which he found very difficult so really does show you its not always a bad sign when they say it was difficult.

sca11ion, thank you for offering to collate the stats, it would be greatly appreciated as I think I am now even more confused by the scoring system and age standardisation! Lol. Will post my daughters raw score when I receive it.

I think they mean 66% on average out of 64 - a paper's total- which if you work it out is roughly 43 out of 64. Give or take. Add two papers raw scores together and allow for standardisation would get an aqe score if 88???

yeah suppose that does work but only if it were a younger child.the whole standardisation process really seems to vary tho its hard to predict. I think you have take it they need to be scoring in or around 80% to hope for a score of 100 plus which seems a bit much. to me 80% is a very good score and should get them a top mark. Perhaps a grade is better.who knows. All depends what school they want to go to. for us the school we want (Banbridge Academy) the competition is stiff, I only hope 107 is enough to secure my son a place but who knows, another waiting game! I know I'll be a bit more sure what to expect when my next child is going through it in 2 yrs.

you really needn't worry, 107 will definitely get into Banbridge. Most years Banbridge takes scores in the 90s and only 1 year it jumped to 102 so you'll be fine

hope you're right. I think I'm just a natural worrier! There does seem to be alot of high scores this yr especially in this area but yeah your right statistically he shoud get in.Thanx.
  • This year, it looks like kids needed to score 78% across their 2 best papers to achieve the 'mean' AQE score of 100

Other years 75% translated to the 'mean' AQE score of 100 so it appears that the standard has been higher this year. Also a higher number of kids did both aqe and gl tests this year. I hope this doesn't push up the lowest score accepted by schools. Anybody any thoughts on this ??
