Hi, got my sons scores. November Birthday, 78 in AQE. Last few months practise papers were in 70%s, some 80%s. Above average Pims and PIEs. Scores in top two test papers on day of AQE around 54%. No sense at all. Practise paper scores around AQE period - 75%.

Really sorry to hear this, I can understand your annoyance but I must say that you are not the only one who thought your child should have scored higher in the real tests. My DS was consistently in the high 80s and had a few papers in the 90s throughout Oct and Nov and whilst we are happy enough with his score of 103 it is definitely lower than we expected it to be. His best friend who was doing even better than him got 107 - yet he had quite a few papers in the 90s - I just don't get it. Only thing I can say for my son was that he found the English tricky because of words he did not know but he's great at maths - had a PIM score of 132 .
Confused - we should be !

AQE mummy absolutely gutted for you and your child. I think if they haven't been doing so well at the practice papers you aren't expecting a high score and you just want them to do their best to get a score they are happy with but when they have been doing well it is heart wrenching when their scores drop on the day. I really hope that your son is happy whatever school he goes to.

From RAW scores - Top two papers ave 66%
    AQE score 88

Estimating the means so far - is a little strange but I guess we need more results to get to the bottom of the "age standardisation" voodoo.

To get raw scores just email AQE referencing the data protection act and ask for your childs raw scores giving your childs details as in aqe results sheet. As stated earlier this is now taking longer to get a reply.

    June Birthday
    AQE score 107
Raw scores 50 55 49 giving an average of 82%
I thought the aqe score was more or less the 2 highest scores added together but not sure this always works.very confusing.
  • Hi I've requested daughters raw scores so will let you all know once I receive them. She got 103 (Nov bday) so will be interesting to compare with your sons flymetothemoon. I've definitely heard some surprise results with some kids in my daughters class scoring over 110 who were scoring lower than her in practise papers. One boy in her class got 124 which was fantastic though the top girl who was scoring similar to him before the tests got 100??? Really feel for those who haven't done as well on the day as expected.

    Hi N.I Mum

Best two raw scores are the 1st and 2nd tests, giving 78% and 86% respectively - so overall 82%. (they are marked out of 64)

I agree with flymetothemoon - the more info we have about the raw test results, the month of birth and the final AQE score, the more parents can understand how the standardisation is working.

I'll try to collate a stats thing for all of us from the reports coming in. Like others, now expecting my daughters raw scores in a week or so. This info will be great for next years kids and parents

    Sept Birthday
    AQE score 106
    Raw score 82%

    June Birthday
    AQE score 107
Raw scores 50 55 49 giving an average of 82%

As the birthdays run from July 1st 2003 - Jun 30th 2004 and the scores above are from Sept 2003 and June 2004 the age standardisation has only added 1 to the raw score.

Agreed attritioner. From what we have been told so far (that AQE compare each child against their month peer group), this just means that the June birthday group was pretty much equal to the Sept birthday group (with 82% meaning an extra mark for June final score). Really wish it was more transparent, thought that the younger ones would have had a better differentiation between June and Sept.

Yes so did I. Really just depends which month the child is born and how other children born the same month do.suposse It sounds fair but It shows theres no def truth in the rumour that younger kids get marks added on and older ones get marks taken off as alot of people seem to think.
