    Yippee! Congrats!
  • Well today has finally come around.... WE MOVE IN TODAY!!
Went and saw the property last night with the seller to make sure he had done all the tasks we had asked (patching up holes etc) and got a bit of a surprise when we turned up to find a police car on the drive and a copper in uniform stood at the door talking to our seller. Turns out he is the next door neighbour who was saying his goodbyes before going to work!!
I'm just hoping we get the keys fairly early so that we can get the stuff out of storage and into house.

OMG Rmphotography that is FANTASTIC news!!! :) Enjoy your moving day/weekend! :D xxx
  • Wow moving day is just as stressful as any other day with the mortgage application process, waiting around with stuff loaded in the hire van for the call from the solicitor to say it had all gone through!

In the end it wasn't our (proving to be crap) solicitors who called but the seller to say that his solicitors had called to say everything was done and monies had been paid and we could meet him at the house to pick up the keys. We had a call from our solicitors 1 HOUR after we had got the keys from the seller!!

Bit of an obvious tip but DEFINITELY recommend swapping mobile phone numbers with the seller - by having each others numbers we have managed to chase up solicitors and get things done and stop their stalling!

Love being in our new house, need to give it a bit of a clean, and paint a few doors / skirtings, and it is full of boxes - but I could not be happier!!!
  • So our timeline for the mortgage process was:

Offer accepted on house: 27th February

Lots of fannying about and stress with Santander before withdrawing application.

    Applied to Halifax: 12th May
    Agreement in principal: 12th May
    Valuation booked: 13th May
    Valuation carried out: 16th May
    Mortgage offer accepted: 20th May
Mortgage deed signed at solicitors: 28th May
Searches returned and completed: 28th May
    Contracts exchanged: 3rd June
    Completed purchase: 6th June
Picked up keys to house: 6th June at 130pm

Roughly 4 weeks from application to getting in to the house with Halifax but that was with me chasing the solicitors and popping into their offices to sign documents instead of them posting it out.

I hope everything goes well with your house purchase and it will soon be you, sat in a house full of boxes not knowing where to start, but with a big smile on your face knowing that the most stressful, laborious process in the history of mankind is FINALLY over.
