I am very interested to know more about this company. Are they a good company to use or not?0

This firm, COSY-HOME X-PRO-TEC LIMITED, recently cold called at my elderly father's house and left a flyer. The company registration number is 07667153. They have filed dormant (non-trading) accounts to their year ending 30/09/13 and their last accounts for y/e 30/09/14 have not yet been filed and are overdue - should have been filed by 30/06/15. Their annual return is also overdue - should have been filed by 11/07/15. This information was obtained from Companies House' Webcheck service at approx. 19:00 on 26 July 2015.
Their website domain name, cosyhomeroofs.com, was registered in May 2013 but their accounts show there was no trading between then and 30/09/13. If this is so, they have been trading for less than 2 years. On this basis alone, I would find it difficult to have faith in their 15 year guarantee; even though, according to their website: “The work is carried out by in- house trained local applicators.” [sic]
Based on my own personal experiences, I would not recommend doing any business with a company that cannot keep its public records up to date and has no trading history in the form of published accounts (my opinion).0 -
Some people only come here because they have a reason to complain, some other people come here to find out real others' first hand experiences of firms before they contract with them. Many companies have a portion of their website devoted to genuine testimonials if customers are happy - I'm always wary of "local" firms that do not. Happy customers generally do not come here to praise firms - just saying.0

Hi. I was cold called by Cosy Homes X-Pro-Tec. Normally I just send them on their way, but booked an appointment and rep (actually the director - and yes I checked) came within 2 days.
So from past experience from a company trying to sell me wall protection, I pre warned them that any hard sell and they were out.
The guy that came round, took photo's, showed me the issues with the ridge tiles, tiles etc (to be honest I could see the issues for myself). No hard sell, and confirmed that they would pressure wash the roof, replace any broken tiles, repoint the ridge tiles, straighten tiles, straighten my guttering (that was fitted by John Wayne years ago). Then they would put this coating on and then finally the paint (he did explain its not a paint as such, some kind of resin). The process would take 3 days and confirmed that they could only do the last bit if there was no chance of rain. 15 year guarantee. He left me with 2 prices, one cheaper if I could fit the job in asap else if planned ahead then slightly dearer. I could pay them direct with final 50% not payable until I was completely satisfied. Or I could use the Barclays option, which is also meant to give me extra guarantee's. Apparently if I told Barclays it was rubbish then Barclays would withhold payment until resolved. That sounds OK as it was only 10% deposit and then nothing to pay for 6 months.(4.x% thereafter if paid monthly) OK so it was a cold call, the price was a bit of a gulp, especially when it is not something planned for. From experience so far I can only say that the company and guy I spoke to was pleasant, friendly and no hard sell. It was actually nice for someone to say, well this is what it is, this is what we do, this is what our product will do and if you want it great, if you don't then we'll leave you alone. In fact he said , even if we didn't want them, that I should get the ridge tiles sorted by someone. Sorry for long winded writing but at least wanted to get across my experience so far. Now my question is, does this stuff genuinely work. Will it truly protect as claimed? Whats the risk to the roof if I don't do anything (~60yrs old - no structural issue. Some tiles moved, a few cracked, lots of moss , bird poo). The quote for 3 bed semi - ~£4000. Its slightly more than normal if we wanted our guttering sorted as they would have to get scaffolding in. Because I have no building experience etc, then I don't know if I am being blinded by science or if this is a genuinely good thing to have done and the money is about right. I appreciate that people cant tell me to definitely do it, but any roofing experts to give an opinion would be good. I have read the threads by the guy who used to be in the game, would like a few more and possibly anyone who had used this firm. Again appreciate that someone has posted as such but others seem to be dubious whether that is genuine or a company man.0 -

The answer is to avoid this con company and treat it as if it has the plague. You should be aware of this from reading all the posts that are listed before yours. Nobody should be painting 60 year old roof tiles, it is as simple as that.
With regards to price yesterday I had roofing repairs undertaken. Various broken tiles replaced, one ridge renewed, new dentil slips and ridge tiles, guttering installed, another gutter replaced. I supplied the materials and oversaw the work. The job was priced work quoted at £300.
There is another visit due for works to the chimney, work in the roofspace, re-pointing brickwork, and some brickwork repairs. This is again priced work with a quote of £300.
In both cases I could have got lower quotes but I am happy to pay for these men to be working for me rather than dodgy folks. The follow on to this is your quote for £4000 is an utter rip off.0 -

^^ this.
On our old victorian terrace we had it patched up good as new (re-pointing, replacing old tiles, cleaning and tidying up the 2 chimney stacks) and had change out of £1k.
For £4k you should be thinking about a complete re-roof. Get second opinions from roofing specialists (not cold callers) and seek advice from there.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

In your post you say that you were left a flyer, do you still have a copy of that?
If you do would it be possible to send a scanned image of the front, back and inside to me at:
