The warning would be of more use if you actually explained what the problem was- a general 'rubbish' comment is not helpful for people who are maybe considering using it.

  • I have alot of experience with scammers on depop, both selling and buying. If you can tell us what happened we can try and advise? As long as you didn't pay by Paypal friends and family payment, you will be able to get your money back
  • My 17 year old son has bought a I-pad pro described as an unwanted Christmas gift. The seller claimed to be a student named Emily Pritchard. The buyer asked to be paid through pay pal friends and family as otherwise the money would take 14 days to get to her and as she was a student she needed the money as soon as possible . My son has paid £270 for the item and £5 postage . He has not received the tracking number which he was told he would and also the item has not arrived. On checking today we discovered the account has been closed down. We suspect that it may not of been the person stated it might of been someone using her identity. My son has found the girl on face book. The location on the depop profile and the Facebook profile doesn't match but every thing else does ie; name , email ect. I understand that it was done through friends and family but £275 of a 17 year olds well earnt money is a lot to lose. Is there anything you can do. We have reported it to action fraud and pal pal . pay pal said they couldn't do anything however action fraud are investigation. Is the ere anything we can do to get money back !?

I'm afraid there is nothing that can be done to recover the money. paying by Friends and family is an unsafe payment method and paypal do warn that this can not be recovered. The clue is in the name 'friends and family' and I think it is a shame your son didn't ask advice before using an unsafe payment method on a fairly obvious scam.

Just look at the post directly above yours!

if you can track the person down and get a geographic address then you could try a legal route though.
