I'm looking to sell on here too, but am a bit dubious - did you end up selling anything?

  • Hi I have been using depop for around 3 weeks now and have sold 7 items it's getting enough people to view your page and having the price at a reasonable amount as no one is willing to pay more than they would if they went to the shops however some people want everything for nothing! They suggest you get 'good' photos so you have more of a chance of your items
Appearing on the explore tab which is viewed by nearly everyone.

Never heard of depop. Must have a look. Some more competition for EBay.

I would also try Ebid but only if they charged for each listing and not almost £50 as a lifelong membership fee as it's too much to lose if nothing sold. I think if they give that charge a rethink then they would get hordes of people moving from EBay. They need to compete better!

    • You sell an item for £40
    • The Depop fee would be £4
    • PayPal will charge a small fee of about £1.60
    • You keep £34.40
So big fees and unsafe expensive paypal as the one and only payment method, you end up paying ebay even though you're not using ebay.

    Waste of time.

Not for much longer, they're parting later this year. It's still (mostly) considered the safest way to pay for most buyers, I've got other payment methods on my website but only Paypal gets taken up.

I will agree that Depop looks like a waste of time. I don't get why it's exclusively on devices, if you're going for that market you could still set up a website for PCs that would work.

I like the anonimity of EBay until the point of sale but with Facebook and similar, if you're registered under your own name, it's obvious who is selling. I'm not so keen on that.

Is that so the taxman can't find you?
  • Deepop works for me, had a few dozen sales since I started using it, sold a number of different items that once upon a time I would have sold on my private ebay account. Ebay was once king for me but its just not worth the risk anymore especially for clothing with sizing issues etc. You could probably give stuff away on ebay and some buyers would still find problems and mark you down for this and that as they know they have you over a barrel.

More that the loons who buy online can't track you down and axe murder you.

If they're paying you by Paypal there's still the same possibilities. Depop will inevitably have less customers and so less potential problems, if they want to expand to anything like Ebay they'll have to offer a similar level of buyer protection.
