Money Moral Dilemma: Should we have paid for restaurant owner's birthday meal?

Were there other 'guests' there and were you all sitting together, with the birthday girl? Otherwise it wasn't really a party and she was taking the mickey. A friend of ours invited us to a Christmas party at his club but it was made clear from the start that there would be a charge for the food - £12 a head for a 3 course dinner, which was excellent, followed by comedy acts and dancing. Of course we bought our own drinks so he had a nice busy evening in his club but no nasty surprises for his guests.0

Surely the loss will be more than the gain if word gets around how you have been treated.
Better to have used it to her advantage, invite friends to a birthday party, treat you and hope you spread the word how good the restaurant is. Win win all round.
Were you also buying other drinks as well.
A party invite to me is where I would expect to pay for my own drinks and if food is laid on all well and good. You dont get inivited to a wedding and pay for your meal.:female:0
