Well, after a long day with the aged parents...hospital etc. I got back to home town and spent my Co0p £5 voucher...not very wisely...I bought reduced watercress salad 90p, large toastie loaf 75p and 2 bottles of Bulmers cider, now I thought it said 2 for £4...:beer:but when I got home, noticed I'd been charged £2.49 and £2.65...so £1.79 was spent:(....so as I'll be passing the Co0p again tomorrow, I'll pop in to check and if they've made a mistake I'll get back what is due/

Bigger spend than usual today as DH came shopping with me! Spent a total £39.01:eek: - usually spend about £25-£30. Still within budget and only another couple of shops to do so hopefully will be within budget again this month.

£31.15 spent between A!di & Morrys today this got us lots more fruit - apples, bananas, strawberries, peaches, nectarines, grapes, tomatoes, cabbage, cucumber, plums, celery, parsley plus other stuff. All this fruit is doing us good as we have both lost more weight :j
Have sorted out the freezer in the kitchen and written down what we have - just need to keep it up to date now. Tomorrow I aim to start the other freezer which is outside in the shed.
Tonight we had pork chops & veg - too hot really but the veg needed using up. Tomorrow we are having a ploughman's type meal as its supposed to be even hotter tomorrow.
Mum seems better but still needs to keep an eye on her as she doesn't drink enough 3 - teas and a coffee throughout the day is far too little in my opinion so have brought her some squash and told her to mix some in a jug every night and keep it in the fridge to cool ready for the next day. She's managing an extra glass or even two so its better than nothing. I am certainly not like her as I drink several glasses of cold water every day.
doing ok with the budget so far.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weather and not suffering too much from it.

Hey - sounds like you doing really well - but I would call a cabbage a vegetable :rotfl: sorry - only teasing. I think you will find it is better having loads of fruit and veg and you will both feel the benefit :D

I agree with you about your Mum needing to drink more but why squash and not just water as she will then be upping her sugar intake ? Maybe just a slice of lime or lemon if she doesn't like plain water (it helps up the metabolism as well ;) )

Had another NSD today and thinking budget might be doable but it's going to be close

Hope you all have a fantastic Friday

Well I have a minus spend today.....I received £1.14 refund on the cider I bought yesterday (should have been 2 for £4 and I was charged full price)...this is my mantra from now on...check the till receipt before leaving shop and if there's an offer on and they don't give it you, complain...even if it's only pennies. Better in our pockets than theirs.
I went to Sainsbugs for petrol and instore I used my Innocent Veg Pot voucher on a Thai veg curry and it was gorgeous and filling...but it should have cost me £3.90!!! who would pay that much? anyway, the voucher scanned at £3.89 so that was 1p to pay. I also bought 2 tubes of chilli tomato paste for 10p each (they.ve been on sale at this price for about 2 weeks)
13 days left of July and £5.94 to last me  mind you I did start my July on the 28th June. I'm hoping to buy just milk and tomatoes.

now how did that cabbage creep in with the fruit? :rotfl:
I agree about the lime/lemon and water but mum would be aghast at the idea. She is 90 set in her ways and as stubborn as a mule, she also has dementia and no way will you change her now. Just getting her to drink more is my main challenge.

Second freezer all sorted, listed and tidy - Long may it last.

Spent 6.18 in Asda on milk, cheese, bread, 2 bottles of squash (we're getting through so much lately!) and 2 jars of pasta bake.
Am going to do a meal plan for next month, and based on what I've used this month, I think I need to spend less on stockpiling things, as I've got lots of cereal, a whole as-yet-unused bag of quorn mince and quorn sausages, meat sausages, lots of baked beans, spaghetti and tinned toms that I'm not going to have used by the end of the month. Plus with the hot weather I don't really feel like spag Bol or cottage pie. I might try a weekly shop for August instead of one monthly shop and top ups.
I will come in under budget as my last bit of money is for entertaining the kids the next 2 weeks, so we are living out of the cupboards and freezer till payday.

  • All grandkids returned to their respective homes, so more frugal times await. DGD aged 10, was very interested in how to make pasta, tortillas and sausages, so I guess they did learn a bit. She was fascinated at how simple the ingredients and processes are, so I hope she will continue to use her newfound skills.
A friend arrived with some end of lay battery hens, so they also had a lesson on intensive poultry farming methods and our backyard system, and they were fascinated at the chickens antics when they discovered grass etc.

Busy day ahead today, a hunting friend delivered 20kg of venison, so I will be making half of it into salami. The other half is my "fee", and is already packaged into meal lots and in the freezer. Its a good way to manage meat as it gives us variety, and as the salami also uses the tougher cuts of my home grown beef its a win-win situation.
