    Managers do tend to get a bit moody when customers who think they know it all and are totally wrong think they can insist they are right.

    Before you argue with them and get their backs up at least know what you are talking about.

    Ironically, the best chances of getting the discount in the first place are to either;

    1. Be really nice, polite and understanding of the rules and procedures of the shop and get lucky with the cashier thinking "oh wow they've been lovely so i'll do you a favour (if I am authorised)"

    2. Be a crank, twist everything which is said to you and turn the issue into a 2 week+ saga with the head office, to which you'll !!!! off half the staff who may refuse to serve you in the future (though their hands may be tied a bit in bigger companies) and you will eventually get a difference refund when they get fed up of you.

    Depends on the type of person you are and how much you need that 5er

    Why don't people know that items don't have to be sold at the advertised price if it's wrong.
    How many years have consumers been told this now!!!

    Just because you read this forum doesn't mean everyone else in the world does.

    Where have they been told this then? Watchdog - not everyone watches that.

    Dont get done get Dom - not everyone watches that.

    I know there really hasnt been much in the print media for all these many years and if it is its in the wrong place in the paper as its not prominent.

    So where have consumers been told this for years then?

    OK then if they've been told otherwise eg it has to be sold at the price then who told them that?

    Wouldn't you think the manager was being rude if someone came over whilst he was serving you and he left to talk to them? It sounds like he did the right thing - acknowledged that something was wrong, gave a quick response, then returned his attention to the person he was serving first.

    Have had this all the time I have worked in Retail. Age old Retail saying' Wouldn't life be great without customers !' ( also no job, as no one in to buy)

    Whichever shop you go into, you will find things moved around, whether it is Tesco's where someone has moved a 240 box of teabags to a gondola end which states 99p, to a pair of trainers on a wall, with a sign purely saying £24.99.

    What consumers really need to start doing is , instead of bawling and shouting your rights ( which most don't even know), they need to take a step back, be polite and discuss your thoughts on why you think it is wrong, try and use your charm and get on the good side of the manager/staff member and In my experience 90% of the time, I get what I want.

    It is an invitation to buy, not your rights to buy

    I've worked in retail and moaning about prices is like a pendulum... Unless you're a bitter employee then you have that golden 10 seconds where you forgive the customer for thinking they are owed a discount. It is about how they continue to act which determines their chance of getting any such discount (if possible) :D
