When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.:money:

ok, as I've started the thread, I'd better have a list to work from.....it's been a crazy week work wise. The highlight was a fab night out with work on Thursday night. I went to an awards ceremony which we were one of the main sponsors. I got a little tipsy on the free bar (my company sponsored the bar and provided a top team of mixologists)

Since then, I have decided that I need to smarten up certain parts, such as I need to get a smart cocktail dress (my bargain £8 asda dress doesn't cut it) - as I am +size and a bit tall! I need to look at pulling it apart and adding a bit of material to the bottom of the top and to the skirt if you see what I mean! I need to make a small purse otherwise I may lose all my loose change and I need to make a couple of bags to go into my overnight bag - a dirty clothes, clean clothes and a shoe bag.

So, today I have/will:
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner from stores
  • I met a friend for breakfast - only had toast and a coffee and my friend paid
  • Went to the fabric shop and bought some material for my projects (above)
  • Looked at posh dresses in the shops - decided that I would make something as it is cheaper and I can make it to fit me
  • Watching bits n bobs on the sky box

Wow, not much of a list but these seem to be time consuming!

Take care all

    Morning Candy!
Beware people we have a double post this morning

    My weekly/weekendly post...

    This is me:
    - Checked banking
    - Bought cheap birthday present and card for DD's friend, party this afternoon
    - Working 8-1pm, don't do weekends anymore but this is a must due to illness, overtime earned!
    - Not MSE but buying the boys breakfasts to keep them working happily
    - All tea/coffee from work
    - DSister doing all the washing this morning and hanging out to dry on the line
    - Use B00ts family staff discount card (S-I-L's) to buy fake tan, I am a ghost!
    - Dinner from meal plan
    - Purchase "missing" bits from shopping, not impressed with Mr T's delivery this week
    - Hopefully leave DD at part for free childcare :D
    - Housework this afternoon!
    - DH taking DD to swimming lessons, prepaid in advance to save pennies
    - Night in a friends for her birthday, taking bottle of champers gifted to me by a customer and will make her some cupcakes if I have time :D
    - Pick up N3xt gift card for friend for birthday, she has bought some shoes recently from online so giftcard will pay her account

    Sparkle in the sunshine!!!
    :D:D:D:D:D

    Jx
Nothing to report as yet...give me a minute...!
  • Argghh! We crossed...does anyone know how to delete a rogue thread (mine that is - your a whole minute earlier Candy! :))

I was in dire need of a positive yet penny pinching start to the day, hence popping back here. I hope your all doing well - foxgloves, hope you got your wine and that the day got better as it went on! Heres to fewer domestic dramas today.

Its my birthday weekend but celebrations have become fairly DFW :) which is a relief! A day pottering home alone, but with my nephew (and BIL) coming in for a cuppa and a cuddle (of the younger one!) at some point - I hope he'll be able to help me work out what needs to be done for a few bigger jobs I am scratching my head and not quite knowing where to start.

    • Free insulation applied for, off to measure the depth of mine in a minute. Its not enough - heat leaking through caused so much condensation in the winter that I thought the roof was leaking badly - but hope it falls into the we'll do it for free category! I will answer the phone to unknown numbers for a few days (usually I screen them, and have previously missed the callbacks this way, duh).
    • Too small kids wetsuits to be retrieved from loft and either taken to second hand watersports shop or advertised on bay of E / fb
    • Have sorted through ebay / cs box and will list some things today, plus drop a bag to cs. This effectively also means cleaning out my understairs cupboard as the ebay items are right at the back!
    • Start to research re-mortgage process. First time I've ever done that, but out of a tied period now. My monthly amount has dropped by £100/month - but it scared me how easily that could have been a rise in the other direction!
    • Review budget (payday was yesterday) to see if any more could be squeezed toward debt!
    • Ironing especially bedding for paying guests next weekend. Also a bit of clearing up to make it quicker to get house ready for them!
    • We are taking kayak with us on holiday at half term - needs a bit of TLC this weekend.
    • Make cake for tomorrow
    • Quick trip to Aldini to pick up pizza (for BIL) and eggs (for cake). Nothing else needed!
    • To a friends for BBQ tonight, taking raffle prize / gifted wine and nibbles from the storecupboard.
    • To parentals 2mrw for lunch. I wanted to do an activity with DD in my home town that made me nostalgic for my growing up days, thought it might cost about £60, but my darling Dad has done some trading of favours and we get to go for free! Just more of that raffled wine as a thank you!
    • To a friends for a cuppa and board games late afternoon tomorrow. Pretty perfect day, hey?

    ooops, double post

    have copied my list

Good morning! The sun is shining bright and warm already in the North West!

Thanks to crazy_lady for starting us off.

I'm feeling full of the joys of spring. I did have a glass of wine last night but completely within calorie budget :A
    Today's mission:
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Breadmaker on if I can get a loaf into the freezer!
    • Put Asda receipt into priceguarantee - not enough items, need at least 8
    • Log calories in free app
    • Collected water while waiting for shower to heat up - will use to water plants later
    • Washing on - will peg outside
    • Housework (but want to be outside!!)
    • Plant out some carrot seedlings now they are a bit bigger. The slugs had my last lot
    • General gardening
Oooooo I need to be in the sun!

    Have a good one all

So, this is actually what we did yesterday. Will post what we did today later. Sorry to be a maverick!

 Elderly electric cooker grill died and is beyond repair. We paid nothing for it when we got it from a neighbour third hand. We bought an I'll inexpensive replacement. Didn't pay £35 for delivery or £70 for installation as I am competent and trained at electric cooker installation. Put it in the hatchback instead. We'll fit it today. Decided that as neither of us had ever owned a brand new one we would buy a new one in the hope it might last longer than the third hand ones we usually get. Old cooker is going, via Freecycle, to a lady who has been cooking on a two ring baby Belling for a year with no oven so she is pleased to have an oven/hob upgrade. We have told her it's on it's last legs and she is fine with that.

:D Bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner in a charity furniture shop for £20 with a one year guarantee. All it needed is a stair tool which I've ordered onlinequid for a couple of. Our old £25 vacuum was on it's last legs. Resisted temptation to buy a new Dyson for a sqillion quid.

:D OH retrieved paint from loft lelt here by last tenant and painted external windowsills. £0.

:D OH killed the last of the moss on the front garden path with a wire brush. £0.

:D We repaired one of our broken back gates. £0. And painted it with "everlasting" tin of hut/shed paint we bought last year for £2.99.

:D Managed a positive conversation with someone I've not got on well with in the past. Strong relationships are better for the bank balance!

:D Dinner was barbecued random things from the freezer. £1?

:D OH did some ninja carpentry on two planks in the back fence. The top of the planks were ragged so they were prised off and turned upside down, hiding the ragged edge at the bottom. £0.

:D Bought garlic bulbs half price. 50p.

    Pleased with that wee list.

    Morning all :D

    My things for today are:

[STRIKE]Banking[/STRIKE] All as it should be.
[STRIKE]Clear the washing basket[/STRIKE] First time I've seen the bottom of it in quite a while :o
    Dishes
Make a large pot of bolognese sauce
    Inventory the freezer
    Meal plan using that inventory
    Buy meat for the freezer
    Meet a friend for brunch
Pop to Te$co for my tinned fruit (they are the only supermarket I know of whose value tinned fruit is in juice and not syrup; their peaches anyway!)
    Put away yesterday's washing :o
Go for a walk in the sunshine
    Return a dress to Debenhams

That's looking like quite the list already, I had better get cracking :D

Morning guys  thanks for starting us off Candy & Crazy_lady. Sometimes a mod will join double threads, but hasn't seemed to happen the last few times!

Feeling delicate today! Went out for a friend's birthday last night. Food was amazing! Must go back to that restaurant again! Managed to get a lift home so that was MSE (for me!)

Have a lot on this weekend as I have to write a report for my interview (for my own fricking job & get paid less!), prepare for the interview and also have 2 other jobs to apply for, all whilst having dgd! Hoping to wear her out during the days so she goes to sleep early!

    DFW thing for the day:
    [STRIKE]
    * one load of hockey cokey done, will hang on line (sorry La E!) and another to go in[/STRIKE]
    * B/D from stores
    * going to a BBQ to meet a friend's new baby at lunch. Will grab some burgers and rolls from Lidl. [STRIKE]Will also check to see what the offers are this week.[/STRIKE] Take own carrier bags
    * start writing report tonight
    * get job applications folder from external hardrive so I can copy and paste to applications I'm doing
    * do job search
    * Keep on top of housework as no time to do any big clean ups this weekend
    * [STRIKE]have raised a case on ebay over the dyson we bought - it doesn't work! Am watching a couple of others on ebay now[/STRIKE] have received a refund already! :T
    * work out how to sign in to my skype account so I can speak to oh later who is in France for a few days
    * if I can squeeze in any time do my Portuguese homework. Email tutor about material for class missed last week
    * cancel ww subscription as am not doing it! Still want to loose another 5lbs but might as well just do it myself
    * take a few pictures of things to list on fleabay
    * drink lots of water to kill off headache. May need a nap later!
    * call to hire rotavator for next weekend
    * order bath panel

Ok think that's my lot. Better pull myself together.... one more coffee and some toast first I think....

Ok so this is my first weekend on the the DFW journey :)

I have started by having my breakfast whilst reading these boards as my inspirartion and motivation for the weekend and journey ahead :)

Today I am putting a couple ads on Gumtree and eBAy I have a £50 target this week on this.

Tomorrow I am doing a car boot sale - £75 target

I am packing a picnic and heading to a local national trust park with the DH & kids to enjoy some of this weather without spending a penny!

I also be making use of the glorious sunshine to hang out washing

I am writing/posting a letter to reclaim tax fro DH uniform allowance Hope to eventually get at least £48 back from this.

If I get time, I am sanding down and painting some bedroom furniture.

Tonight kids are at parents, so DH and I will be enjoying an ASDA Indian takeaway meal (Saving about £8 on our usual takeaway spend) and will find a movie on TV to watch.

Thats about everything for now... Off to get on with some of it!!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone :)

    Hello everyone,

What glorious weather! Unfortunately I have to lock myself away to work on the dreaded dissertation :( (no garden and I have too many papers to take to the park). However, I WILL get one section finished this weekend which will be a massive relief, so it's worth it :j

    - LSD today (need dog food and tea bags), NSD tomorrow
    - All meals from stores
    - Take poochy out for some sunny walks and have breaks from the diss
    - Surveys to check
    - Free postcode lottery to check
    - Read Martin's email
    - Need to post to the free online MOOC I signed up to (on digital curation, which is either massively interesting or massively boring depending on your viewpoint!)
    - One load of washing done, another one to do
    - I think my hoover is on it's last legs :( It has served me well for 7 years (especially with all the doggy hair it has to suck up!) but I can't afford a new one. Fingers crossed it will last a bit longer but if not I need to look at how I can buy a new one next month (and who I can borrow one from until I can buy one...!)
    - Bathroom needs cleaning - my worst household chore!
    - Last night I went through my finances and figured out the date I can start overpaying my personal loan - it brings my DFD a month closer than I thought, November 2015 :T

Have a lovely sunny weekend everyone :j
