How long does it take to complete a DIY Kitchens order? Are they ready built like Howdens or flat pack?

I'm considering trying to pit a few Howdens against each other on price.

    Hi Peter,

Thankfully my dad was very knowledgeable and knew all the extra bits I would need that I would otherwise have forgotten about :D (plinth, cornice, end panels etc.) But the process of ordering the kitchen once you knew what you needed was very simple, and it arrived exactly when they said it would. Units came pre-assembled and feel very rigid, but it means they weigh a tonne when they arrive with all the doors and drawers hung!

We have Howdens units in our bathroom, and there isn't much between them in terms of quality! Both are good products but we just found DIY to be much cheaper on the kitchen we were after.

thanks guys for the welcome :)

i am only trying to impart some of the knowledge that i have picked up along the way.

i genuinely think that everyone in the trade uses H's just because thats what they do. I have found somewhere better and would like to tell people - glad to see you think its such a crime direct debacle...i wonder why you are that upset??? vested interest perhaps??

I did hear that you often get 'know it alls' trying to put people down on here, and at best i would imagine thats all it is...however I wonder why you think a self appointed policeman is needed to stop people sharing advice??

    That is rhetorical.

Thanks for the great welcome anyway, i really feel at home here now. And in case debacle you struggle with other things like sarcasm - that was sarcasm.

...Because not only do people want to listen to spammers, they want to listen to vindictive little ones as well.

I plan to shop somewhere other than Howdens for a change, but I didn't plan to search for your first link, let alone after your second post.

DirectDebacle thanks gazzat for this useless vitriolic post.

It says more about you than I ever could so I will not report it as abuse.

Best you hop it before you shoot yourself in the other foot.

After being round the sheds, the indpendents and Howdens we have decided to use DIY Kitchens. The prices in Wickes and B&Q were laughable and Howdens prices a complete work of fiction as far as I could tell. The clincher was the price for just replacing doors (rather than with units) in the utility which was 3 times the price of DIY kitchens for an inferior product. Last time we did a kitchen we used Ikea and I would have gone back there but they stopped seeling the kitchen we loved and now they have completely changed the range. Our fitter complained about the lack of a service void but we just brought the units forward and used cut down breakfast bars, which also helped with the wonky walls :D
  • I too got a quote from Howdens for a Burford Grey kitchen and checked their prices for appliances and they quoted a discount if 60% for their own brand appliances. Their Lamona single gas hob came to £273. That's a ridiculous price as I could get a better quality hob for less than that. I was quoted £3731 for a relatively small kitchen which I think is on the high side. I will give DIY kitchens a go.

Boswell. Pm me your prices and I'll compared to mine as I've just got burford grey for a good price....
