Tenant wants garbage bins cleaned!

I am a LL and I have had a request from my letting agent. A new tenant has requested that I pay to have the three rubbish bins (garbage, recycling and green waste) for the house professionally cleaned at a cost to me of £30!
Would you ask for this and more importantly would you expect your LL to pay for it?

Why would the garbage bins need cleaning anyway.. A tenant that is making a fuss about things like that is probably going to be a pain.0

No I bloomin' wouldn't.
Cheeky g*t.
I might be tempted to post him a list of how to bag rubbish in a bin liner and then put in bin, OR dig out a few numbers for odd jobbers/professionals who go offer a bin cleaning service in the area.

I'd be annoyed the previous scum had left them in such a state, shrug, then buy some bleach and a scrubbing brush and give them a good going over one dry day in the garden.... job done.0

Has the tenant just moved in or have they been there for some time? If they have just moved in, my view is that everything should be clean. You will expect things to be left clean when they move out. So either the last tenants should have cleaned the bins, or you should make sure they are clean.0

It is rather cheeky - on the other hand perhaps a fastidious tenant is not such a bad thing!Adventure before Dementia!0

No I wouldn't pay... probably ...
I would have made sure they were empty and clean at the onset of a new tenancy. Wheelie bins can get disgusting, particularly when food is left for two weeks or so.
Before a new tenant takes over, I do wash the bins out, inside and out. I wouldn't eat my dinner out of them, but they start out clean & shiny, smelling of bleach!
If the bins were left in a smelly state, then yes I would pay. Just, mine wouldn't be left that way.0 -
As a tenant I wouldn't dream of making this request!!! If I saw the bins were dirty I would clean them myself and buy bin liners to keep them clean, asking the LL wouldn't even enter my head.
Jesus, what is wrong with people these days? Is it really too much effort to clean your bins and take responsibility for your own things?? I know they're renting but so am I and this is my home that I take pride in, just as I would if I had bought it.0 -
If I moved into a new place and the bins were dirty it would be less hassle for me to just spend 10-15 minutes cleaning them myself rather than hassling the LA/Landlord.
That said it's not unreasonable for a new tenant to expect things to be clean when they move in and if you're using a letting agent the tenant will almost certainly have paid a significant amount of money (on top of rent and deposit) to move in which case a "why should I do it?" attitude might be somewhat understandable.0 -

Bin liners? I imagine the OP is talking about the wheelie bins, and I don't think you can get liners for these.0 -

Yes, it's ridiculous what tenants have to pay to letting agents (and no, I'm not a tenant).
If the tenant has just handed over £500 for all the various reference checking, credit checks, contract etc, then yes, I hope they would get clean bins.0
