Sister having a baby, want to get a present that will really mean something

She has people providing all the usual baby stuff and I am helping out a bit in that regard too. But I wanted to get something for the baby that will last forever, even if they can't necessarily use it straight away.
I was thinking of some kind of stuffed animal and maybe some engraved jewellery? Does anyone have any ideas about this sort of thing? It can be literally anything but something they will have forever. Thank you

Is your sister a keepsake type of person?. Its just that i got engraved bangles/silver mugs/piggybanks, when my kids were born and they were stuffed in the loft, long before my kids were old enough to use them, as i just dont do ornaments, etc.
Also stuffed toys all depends on the child. Some take to a certain one and carry it around for years, but i have bin bags full of them that my kids have been bought over the years and have no idea what to do with
I would say get a token gift, not necessarily sentimental either, that would be of use to your sister now. Is there anything proper like a steriliser or cot bedding that she might want but cant afford? Or maybe just offer your time, ie provide a cooked meal every night so she doesnt have to worry about feeding her and her OH (try and make food that you can drop n leave/pop in freezer, so you give them time alone without visitors)0 -

A small investment or savings account that you can put a little each Christmas and birthday.
Stuffed toys can be loved or not appreciated later ( I have none from childhood) and jewellery...do you know it will be a girl?0 -
Why not get her a token that she can exchange for having her baby's hand or foot prints cast in silver or something similar?
I know mothercare do the Plaster of Paris kits, but Silver is a bit more glamorous in my opinion!
She can have it framed and will always be able to see her newborn as a newborn!! I have a basic plaster hand print done by my daughter when she was at Nursery (so aged about 3yrs) and I LOVE looking at it even now that she is a miserable 17 year old!!0 -
I dont know if its your or yours sisters kind of thing but when I had my daughter my
sister brought her a Pandora silver bracelet and charm. Every birthday my sister buys
her a gets a new charm to put on it. So when shes older it will be full of charms and
memories
(i did assume it was a girl there, if its not please discount lol)0 -
You haven't given a price. We had a metal cast of my children holding hands, it it beautiful, you can see every detail of them. However it was not cheap. You can get additional copies done at a reduced rate.
We had it done in a craft village attached to a local garden centre, however the end result is similar to these http://www.babyprints.co.uk/casting-options-1/baby-foot-and-hand-statue-casts/0 -
When I was born my auntie gave me a wind up musical wooden merry go round. I absolutely loved it all through my childhood and now at the age of nearly 34 I still treasure it. I'm looking forward to having it in my own baby's nursery later this year.
You can't go wrong with a special teddy bear though that the baby can grow up with and love.0 -
It's a girl but my sister is the absolute opposite of a girly girl! No real budget, couple of hundred quid tops maybe? But it's not really about cost. It's just about finding something sentimental I think but that the child will appreciate when they are older (even if it is after their grumpy teenage period!).
Thanks for the ideas I like the savings account idea, perhaps a small gift or token plus that would work... still thinking...
Practical stuff is good but she'll definitely be getting that anyway both from me and from other people0 -
Another option is premium bonds.0

I recently had a doll made for my little girl with some changeable clothes https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=442987149171191&set=a.442210622582177.1073742055.219662341503674&type=1&theater
they do whatever colour hair, clothing you want for it. I did actually get one last year as well and they made it from the strips of fabric i had taken off the bottom of my wedding dress.
I like the silver cast ideas but a bit hard to get until baby is here.
Just a suggestion but if you end up going with something for once baby is here and needed you could make a cute stork bundle (bit like a nappy cake but smaller and easier) with an iou for the gift in with a few nappys etc0 -
I *love* the custom doll idea that is fantastic!0
