    Hi loinerlufc

There's a couple of separate things here.

I suspect one of the payments you've received is for £140. This was paid to customers on our Warm Assist Variable tariff when it ended last Sunday. This isn't connected to the recent Ofgem investigation into our selling practices between June 2010 and December 2013.

Following this investigation, we agreed to make a payment to many of our vulnerable customers. This is £36.75 and I'm guessing this is the other payment you've received.

Provided your account's billed up to date, any credit balance left can be refunded straightaway. If you let us have up to date meter readings we'll be happy to sort this out for you.

If you changed supplier to us between the above dates and believe you were mis-sold, you'll need to talk to the dedicated team I mentioned in previous posts in this thread.

This team are dealing exclusively with compensation claims following the Ofgem investigation. They aren't, though, looking after any other enquiries.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction. Let me know if you need any other information as happy to help.

I am an E.on customer but have not received a letter re compensation.
I don't know if it is worth checking.
I moved house last October 2013. The previous occupant was with E.on, dual fuel, so I rang to give meter readings. After some questions I was informed that the Age UK I yr tariff would be best.
The house did not switch supplier, but I did, as in my previous home I was with British Gas.
Is there any likelihood I would qualify? Is it worth pursuing?
I should add that my direct debit has been reduced considerably during the course of the year, so I don't feel I am paying too much, though the info I got told me I could be saving just over £1 pm if I was on the standard tariff.
    Thanks for any help.

Almost certainly not. The mis-selling refers to people being approached and switched to e.on - you entered a deemed contract with e.on the moment you moved house, you just chose to stay.

    Hi Newly retired

The compensation we're paying following the Ofgem investigation concerns customers who switched supplier to us between June 2010 and December 2013.

As Bluebirdman says, because you continued with us at the new house and didn't switch supplier, you wouldn't qualify for compensation in this instance.

Glad your Direct Debit looks to be on track. Have you had chance to read my response to Jani1953 above (post 30) about the Direct Debit Manager? Might be of interest.

It gives you a bit more control over the monthly payments. Could be useful if your circumstances change.

Also, as you're on the AgeUK tariff, you might qualify for Warm Home Discount for 2014/15. It's a payment of 140 quid this time round so worth checking out.

If you're eligible under the Core Group, the Government will send you a letter and we'll automatically put the money into your energy account. If not, you can apply to us under the Broader Group. We're taking applications now including through our website.

Sorry if I'm trying to teach you how to suck eggs Newly retired but hope it's of interest.

  • Hi,

So having checked my account in details and realising yes I would be due compensation as the product I was recommended was an online duel fuel sell which was taken out in Aug 2012, as an existing customer just shy of the 2010 date, who was sold a product, I'm not covered for compensation.

So if you were an existing customer, and sold one of these products, you were plain stupid for not switching to a better provider in the first place. Yes I feel stupid for being conned into a fixed deal with eon.

First you get lured in with confusing detail and get told to sign up for fixed deals to get the best rates, then you get stung by being told you get discounts by signing up to fixed monthly direct debits and get over charged every month in which the detail of how they attain the figure to bill you by is even more confusing. It may be easier to budget but then to get the funds back which are in credit you have to go begging.

The main reason I switched was because I was always so baffled by what was on the bills. I left eon earlier this year before this news broke, and have also only just realised that despite my account being closed, my 'in-credit' balance has not been refunded to me!! outrageous! Just a massive scheme to hold on to peoples hard earning and profit from it and then refuse to pay compensation based on minor details like 'oh you were an existing customer so not eligible' Not on and totally unfair treatment of customer. Without a doubt you are quick to demand money when its owed them.

This is my first post to such a forum as I feel so strongly about it.
  • After moving into our first home I was told that the house was supplied by eon and gave them a call to see what I needed to do. I was told to sign up to there 2 year fixed contract as it was the best tariff around. I did as I was advised.
I have been paying £151 a month dual fuel for a small 2 bedroom cottage.
After 12 months I gave eon a call to get my total KWH for the year so I could shop around for a better deal.... £850 less per year from a different provider is absolutly disgusting!
I have just seen all the information about eon ripping people off so have given them a call to be told because the house was already supplied by eon I wasn't due a penny and that it was my fualt for not shopping around in the first place.
Being a first time home owner I didn't have any idea how much I should be paying, upset to say the least.

Any Advise at all would be much appreciated here.

Ask them for a recording of the phone call, then put it up here.

I refuse to believe there's a tariff that's £1812 a year with e.on and £962 elsewhere for identical consumption. Either you're suddenly using less or you built up substantial credit.
  • Sorry the £151 a month has been paid over 10 months
Gas usage for this year is 15639 KWH
Electricity usage for this year is 393 KWH

After inputting those reading onto a comparison website the best quote was
    £71.74 a month with 1st utility.
We have just had the house 12 months.

The house is a small 2 bed cottage and we both work full time.

  • If anyone switched to us between June 2010 and December 2013 and think they may have been affected, they can also contact us to have their case reviewed.

We were doorstepped during this period and have received a letter asking us to get in touch, both gas and electricity are supplied by E.on through Pre Payment meters.
Were tarrifs delivered by this method also miss-sold?

    Hi cybercarrot

It's possible. Some prepayment customers were affected. Certainly worth checking.

Each case is looked at on an individual basis. I'd contact the dedicated team looking after claims following the Ofgem investigation. Their details are on the letter you've received and on our website.

The same letter will have a Unique Reference Number. If you tell the team this, it'll help them look into your particular circumstances and speed things up a bit.

There's more information on our website including some FAQs that might help. It's under 'Help and Support.'

Also, if you've the details listed on this page of the website handy, particularly about the previous supplier, it'll save you some more time.

Hope this helps cybercarrot. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.
