Wow!

Some interesting data has come out this morning:-

11% of people own a second home or a BTL.

Is this reflected here on these Forums?

Was some other interesting data about the wealth of individuals, like 1 in 5 of University Graduates are worth more than £1 million.

Not quite. 11% of households owned property other than their main residence.

    I have 3 BTL's.
Having reviewed the status of houses, I had decided to invest there to provide additional income / equity on retirement and also to hedge against house price inflation for my Children if need be.

    You are quite correct.

Still, 11% - is that reflected across the MSE Forums I wonder?

There is some real hatred of BTL owners and 2nd home owners in this section of the Forums.

Yes, I know it's just jealousy - but 11% of households cannot all be the devil himself!

There is some real hatred towards anyone financially well off on this section of the forums.

e.g. If you post about your MFW challenge on other boards on MSE you get support and encouragement from other users.
If you post it on here, you get ridiculed and branded a debt junkie.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

There is some real hatred towards anyone financially well off in this country. It's class-based, and it's cultural roots go right back to the Norman conquest.

The lefties don't bother with the other boards much, but they like this one because it gets political, and of course they are obsessed with politics.

Being well off is fine. Using that wealth to make other peoples lives miserable is not so impressive.

Couldn't agree more. But the presumption should not be made that everyone well off is undeserving, and has reached and maintained their position in that way. Without wealth creators we would be a very miserable and impoverished, medieval little outfit, and without appropriate incentives there would be few, if any, wealth creators.

I say that to people with 2 cars in the household.

They are polluting the environment making the lives of people with respiratory complaints miserable when they could only have one car.

They are also using up a very valuable fossil fuel that has a limited supply. It's not impressive.

    True.
I was thinking more of BTL which I believe has blocked many from becoming owners due to driving up prices on FTB type properties.

Don't think BTL generates any wealth, just shifts it towards towards those that are already quite well off.

If the cash was invested in job creating ventures rather than property, the country would be a lot better off.

I'd phase out motor vehicles altogether ... and electricity. It's all polluting and wasteful and bad. The Amish have got it right.
