well I just invented holiday pricing website

They say "mother of invention is nessesity" well I just invented holiday pricing website that will attract every single holiday maker in the world and earn £millions

I want to book a holiday for 4 adults from the Midlands to New York City for *around* 5 days *around* September/October

This is how every single person on this planet earth starts their holiday planning

So why (text removed by MSE Forum Team) does holiday planning website ask for *specific* leaving dates and *specific* days and *specific* return dates??????
It then takes couple minutes to find flights and prices
Then I have to tweak dates and days
Then takes time to generate more flights and fares
And by the time I can actually find cheapest flights and fares i it took me 57262726279 inputs and sorts and I am now 465547 years old and dead

Which ever moron designed these websites should shoot themselves in the head so they don't bear any children with a brain smaller than a tic turd
Computers crunch databases for breakfast so its technically a peices of !!!! to get it to search "an array" of dates and days and list the results

Anyone know a website that's a tad smarter for finding flights//hotels that you can enter a *range* of dates/days?
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

American Airlines used to do booking within certain dates (up to a month I think, been a while since I've booked) based on price; they are part of the one world alliance, but I don't think they fly from the midlands.

If you're off to NYC, you might want to consider flying to and from either La Guardia or Newark as they are usually cheaper.

Unfortunately, NYC is not cheap - you will need to either put a range of dates in for flights, or speak to a specialist who can give you more information about when to fly. Try and avoid Mondays and weekends for flights out, they are the most expensive.

I'd also change your attitude; you have no firm dates (not even a firm month) or duration, so you can be flexible, but you also must understand that if you want the cheapest price, you are likely going to either have to call the airlines directly and they will search on your behalf, or speak to a specialist agency who again will search on your behalf.

Won't get much change out of £3k if any for when you're going, even in a budget hotel.

I ALWAYS start my holiday planning by thinking I want to go around those dates for around about those amount of days, usually 2 or 3 times a year

Does skyscanner not do a general search on flights that would meet your needs? If you are going to New York you may be better to book flights and hotel seperately anyway. (Not always but probably most of the time.)

A system that does just the job for this sort of search.

Ok I collect Avios so that helps but even if I didn't the website is extremely user friendly for big search periods.

There are already websites that allow approximate dates to be entered as well as sites that ask for specific but return a range anyway.

The "problem" is dealing with the amount of potential data and ranges of options. Most do things by steps, flights first and hotels next etc however you may chose a flight that is £20 cheaper but because of the dates you've now selected the hotel is £100 more expensive but you cant tell that because of the step nature of the process.

Unspecified durations you then have the issues of hotels have 3 for 2 or reduced pricing for bookings over X days. Until you know which hotel the person wants though you cannot adjust the flights to suit this but until you know the dates you cant say for certain the hotels availability and offers etc.

The idea is great in theory but its simply not practical. You basically need to lock down certain elements and just flex a couple of the others. Leaving almost everything flexible ends up with millions of possible combinations

I'd like a website where you press a button that says "find me somewhere to go" .... and you then get a bunch of holidays and start unticking boxes and using sliders to reduce it.

e.g. first slide the budget slider, then have a "from/to" for duration slider, then untick the months/weeks/dates you don't want, then untick the airports you don't want ... leaving you with where you could go in your budget and being able to see where you could go, when that'd be, at what cost..... then to be able to hide/bin all those you don't want/fancy ... leaving you with a shortlist of holidays you could afford, going from airports you'd be prepared to go from, on dates/durations you could live with.

I would like that too - any IT people on here want to make some money - set this up!

lastimunte.com I'm sure used to have a "inspire me" section for general holidays, that did a similar thing. Put in type of holiday, general time period, budget and it would give a range of options.

Looking today, the inspire me section seems to only refer to gift ideas.

With this internet thing and google thing often the best place to start is not a website trying to sell you a holiday, but you doing a bit of research yourself.

So I think of flying non stop from EMA to NYC, check EMA's website, no flights, next convenient airport is BHX, check website, United has flights, bingo can go from there and look at options.
