May replace it, but haven't yet, not been working a few months.

It has or had an intermittent fault, would sometimes kick back into life with a whack to the side, but this time so far it is still not working, so may be kaput & now permanent fault.

I'm sure the non-payment brigade will be along shortly to encourage you not to pay even if you buy a new TV. This thread will run and run (as usual) with the same old arguments and counter arguments as all the other licence threads...

If you are genuinely not able to watch TV programmes as they are being broadcast then you don't need a license.

If you are watching on a computer or Smartphone etc , though, that's a different matter.:)

Nothing to do with whether or not being 'able' to watch live

If you don't watch live you don't need a licence.

The whole point of the OP's query is that he is apparently not able to watch due to his TV being broken, not because he has simply decided not to watch..

You only need a licence if you watch live tv broadcasts.

So no need to waste money buying a licence for your broken tv.

There is an online declaration form at the tv licence website you can use to tell them which will stop them sending reminders.

    Makes no difference.

He is not currently watching live tv so doesn't need to buy a new licence.

Which is basically what I said at post #4.

Anyone want to wager that this thread now turns into another epic diatribe against the TV license generally?

    What if it does?

    Will it irritate you?

(You have done your bit to keep it going)

    So what?

It's not what post #2 says or implies!

Whatever the OP intends in the future he does not needto buy a licence now!
