TV Licence & broken TV

So what?
It's not what post #2 says or implies!
Whatever the OP intends in the future he does not nbeedto buy a licence now!
I can see how you got so many posts here most ...er... impressive
However nothing the OP states shows he does not need a TV licence now, he simply stated his TV was broken and asked whether he needed a TVL.
It was helpfully pointed out to him that he would need one IF he watched live TV via another means, I have no idea where you got this extra information that he was not doing so.0 -

All we can go on is the info given.
The OP asked if he needed a licence as his tv no longer worked. That's all.
You don't need a licence just for owning a tv (working or not) as has been explained.
As the OP's licence has run out and this being a money saving site, he has been advised he can now do that by not buying a licence until he needs one.0 -

But that advice may well be incorrect.
If all we can go on is the info given, then it would be unwise to guess and fill in the blanks, it would be wiser to cover all options as was done very quickly and concisely within 1 or 2 posts, why you started arguing with it its a mystery.
Is there a prize for post count that no one has informed me about?
As the other poster correctly stated he is watching via other means, then he does need to have a TV licence.0 -
I see this thread is going exactly as predicted.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

There would be no need to post this thread if he is watching (live tv) via any other means. His query clearly related to his broken TV!
(Though you don't need a licence to watch via catch up on your computer/phone etc)0 -
No need for arguments, and no need for the OP not to be given a comprehensive answer.
IF you are watching/recording TV broadcasts(*) through any type of equipment, you need a licence.
IF you never watch/record TV broadcasts you do not need a licence.
You do not need a licence if you ONLY watch catch-up TV using iPlayer, 4oD, etc.
(*) Broadcast = TV transmitted by broadcasters, and received at the same time by the entire population, including pay-TV.0 -
However if he buys a new TV from a shop he will need to have it with him to buy the TV.0

No.
To buy a TV from a shop (or online) all you "need" is the means to pay for it.
(Maybe you are thinking of buying a gun at a shop?)0 -
