What have they offered you and what will you do different next time?

They have given us generous compensation. Obviously, as I have always ordered currency for collection from Thomas Cook at the airport and payment in cash, I would have to look at the other options available at the time.
I would have chosen to pick it up the day before if I had known, but we were passing the Thomas Cook shop on the way to the airport, so when plan A went wrong (Not available for airport collection) we opted to pick it up on the way. Regardless of after events, we shouldn't have had a problem at all and Thomas Cook agreed.

Won't be having a problem for some time though. Waiting for heart surgery before I can go away again.

So you had the cash with you? Why didn't you exchange it at the airport?

Going to a bureau de change to pick up non-GBP cash is the equivalent to going into a bank branch and withdrawing GBP cash over the counter. If you use cash machines in the UK, why not likewise use them abroad? I don't see the reason for a different approach depending on location.

Yeah, the government told you how much money you could take out of the country!

This story makes no sense. So someone was going on holiday with a wad of pounds - yet they claim they were left on holiday with no money for a taxi despite having just gone through two airports.

I know airport exchange rates are terrible but when there is no other option available they are better than nothing.

Yes, seems so, I've asked the question several times, OP seems to be unable to give a direct answer :rotfl:
