Thomas Cook left us without money

Yes but the OP gave the reason for not buying alternative currency as the fact they didn't have their debit card with them ?????
Surely had the Cooks branch been open he'd have needed it anyway ?
Maybe he reserved to pay with cash, which usually attracts a better rate. But yes, he would have had to have had either cash or a debit card with him.
I think he's probably pulling our leg with this tall tale

You don't "order" anything online as such, you reserve some currency - just like you can reserve things at Argos. You then pay however you want to when you get there.
The OP is being ridiculous and Thomas Cook doesn't owe them a penny. As has been pointed out, they had countless opportunities to get Euros elsewhere so it's their own fault they ended up with no Euros in Venice. Their lack of common sense is frankly incomprehensible.0 -
I work for a Travel Money (not Thomas Cook) and we sometimes have to close early or for the entire day. When we close early we always phone any customers who have orders with us as soon as we know we have to close early. The fact that no one bothered to let you know is down to the staff at that branch. Have you tried asking to speak to the manager at that branch?
Also, please don't leave it to the last minute in future! I don't agree that any of the blame is yours at all but these things do happen and surrending your holiday money without being in possession of your currency is entirely illogical to me unless you leave plenty of time.
It's far better to come into the branch IMO due to the choice of what notes you get and peace of mind...that and i'm tired of people collecting one minute before we close making me stay late unpaid while I reprint all the end of day stuff

That is not usually how it works. You usually prepay with debit or credit card. It sounds like that was the case here or the OP would surely have changed the cash with another provider or withdraw EUR from a cash machine in Venice?
EDIT: Apologies, I may be in the wrong here after re-reading the thread. If money was put aside without payment then the OP was still owed a phone call IMO but with the number of airport sellers, i'd question the level of reaction.0 -

You need to take this up with your employer.
If they have opening hours and want you to complete end of day stuff during them something is amiss!
Either alter the opening hours, have a latest collection time or alter your working hours.0 -

That sounds very familiar!
TB & TTM doesn't ring a bell to you at all does it?0 -

No that is exactly how it works.
Though like you, I do find this rather confusing! When I said their behaviour was incomprehensible I wasn't exaggerating at all!0 -

I apologise for using the wrong word. I've amended my post. And yes, I do know how it works.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Sorry I didn't mean to say you didn't - I was just clarifying it in case someone thought it was a binding order or something.
And you can pay with a Credit card if you want (which they said they had) though that's not particularly advisable due to the fees. But considering the lack of common sense they showed when discovering Thomas Cook was closed, it wouldn't be surprising if that's what they were planning on paying with!0
