There is a way to change the settings so paypal is not accepted if you want something to be collection only.

What an annoying buyer! You SAID collect only!

But from the sound of it the buyer didn't have a problem with the principle of collecting the goods (via a courier) - the problem only arose when the OP then said that they are only actually available for the item to be collected at evenings and weekends.

Personally, I'd be rather annoyed if I purchased something advertised as 'collect only' and only after the sale completed did the seller say that the collection could not be made during the day Monday - Friday - one would hope the OP made this restriction clear when advertising the goods in the first place.

eBay forces you to accept PayPal as payment but that doesn't mean the buyer has to use it as long as you don't click the "require immediate payment" box when you list.

As others have said, you should NEVER allow a buyer to pay for an item with PayPal if it's collection only. Just put "cash on collection - no paypal" in your listing.

I always ask when something can be collected before bidding. It seems a bit optimistic to expect the seller to be available 24/7.

I'll specifically put 'Collection from NW... or W... Thursday to Monday/CM... all other times, with 24 hours notice please', as it at least gives choice to the buyer on when to collect and where from.

I do appreciate that most would feel uncomfortable doing this at work, however if times/days are made clear before, there should be less of a problem IMO.

That's not the same as being able to refuse it. Please read the sticky collection thread I posted earlier.

The listing will say that PayPal is preferred, if buyer checks out to get the address it will show PayPal as the default payment- buyer is ALWAYS able to use PayPal except for exempt categories. You can say that cash is also an option , but you cannot insist on it and your terms do not outweigh those of eBay.

The sticky thread explains it all.

On the very rare occasions I sold on eBay I would only accept cash on collection and this was not negotiable - and stated in my listings.
Of course, this limited me to local buyers, but most stuff sold at the right price. I've stopped selling now full stop as to many charges and risks involved, and too much time for too little reward, I'd rather give the stuff away, less hassle.

As for PayPal - pure greed in my opinion.

Makes no difference whether you consider it negotiable or not, buyer can pay by PayPal. Obviously you can refuse to sell and just refund, but with FVFs of 10% that would start to mount up if you run into a series of people using PayPal. The negative feedback and stars would get you if the fees didn't anyway.
