My dog bit me...

during the week when I tried to get something off him and now he has just bitten OH because he tried to remove him from the kitchen after growling and snapping at me.
Daughter distraught as we've said he will have to go (we all want to keep him) because we would never forgive ourselves if anything happened to her.
What can we do, any dog behaviourist out there who can give advice please?

Not a dog behaviorist but how long have you had him?
Do you think there's a possibility of him being abused by someone outside the home recently, being ill or injured and therefore overly protective? The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
sorry not much help only I have been through simular with my beloved pooch and ... turned out he was poorly and had abcess(sp?) on teeth aswell so was generally was feeling poorly, my advice would be take him to vets and have a chat with vet before you do anything drastic .0

Thanks, but we've had him since he was 6 weeks old so no never abused but maybe I should start:rolleyes:
If you knew him you wouldn't believe it, he is such a loving dog but this last week obviously hasn't been good!I haven't got one!0 -

I wouldn't do anything drastic, I love him to bits but can't have an unpredictable dog around DD and friends. We share him with my parents so he can always go to them!
I ordered a book the day he bit me so it should be here this week, hopefully it will give me some ideas as to what to doI haven't got one!0 -
Jopsey's main point was to go to the vet and I totally agree. Book only useful if health problems are ruled out.0

I realise that and hope I didn't come across in the wrong way as it is me asking for your help.
He only had his booster 2 weeks ago and was given a full MOT then so I can 99% say that he is ok.
He has been aggressive before, a few months ago, that was over food, one of the main reasons he failed to become a Guide Dog!
Again sorry if I seemed to to be ungrateful, TRUST ME that is not the case I appreciate anybody'd advice or helpI haven't got one!0 -
I hate to say it but he could be ill, you need to talk to a vet about him before he bites someone else. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0

I think also that if I tell anybody in authority they could order him to be put to sleep which is the last thing I want to happen, therefore I would prefer to try to manage the problem anonymouslyI haven't got one!0

Thanks Sleepmy but he has always had a slight aggression when he isn't getting his own way, he wants to be Alpha Leader and is ascerting his powers (i.e. teeth) to get the better of us humans, if I could get close to him when he is like this I would bite him back!I haven't got one!0 -

Then it sounds like the balance of the house is out for some reason. You need to take it in hand and sort it properly asap without any faffing about. If he bites someone else or wounds someone there'll be no turning back. The stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0
