Taking in a lodger / housekeeper

I currently have a male lodger who is about to move. 1 of his grumbles about my place has been about standards of cleanliness . Yet he has done none himself. Somehow I suspect that he regards cleaning as a woman's job. We don't like doing it any more than you do. When I rented rooms as a lodger, I would never have taken a reduced price room on condition that I did the cleaning.
Employ a cleaner (either sex) and treat them as a proper employee.0 -
Could always think about getting a job in a hotel instead of being on the move like when you were on a ship. That'd probably tick a lot of your boxes. (Or even think about doing whatever you're currently doing, but living in a hotel (wasn't quite thinking Alan Partridge, but you get my gist...!).)

Let's ignore the housekeeping/cleaning side - because that's the easy bit to arrange professionally.
What about the cooking? Who's going to set the menus? Who's going to do/pay for the shopping? What about if the lodger's social life doesn't allow them to be around when you want to be fed?
It sounds , tbh, like the OP really wants to be living with his mum again.0 -
Why don't you get a lodger and use the money to hire a cleaner? Go through an agency and then you can specify a week or two in advance when you would like them to be there. Buy meal for two for £10 from the supermarket and split the cost with the lodger. That way you get company, cleaning, and food for a total cost of £35 a week. And none of it is creepy.0

Tell me you live in Hemel Hempstead ?
I'll clean for 2 hours a week, and knock £30 off the rent. I'll cook you 3 meals if you knock another £20 off the rent. And if you let me use your garage for a "project" which involves welding and painting, I'll let me live there for free.0 -
I bet you would fill this role in no time if you advertised it. There are many people who for one reason or another find themselves facing becoming homeless.
Single woman who may like housekeeping duties with the added security of a roof over their heads.
And as others have said men also.
Try the lady magazine which specialises in jobs just like this. Or your local paper.
A friend of mine used to housekeep for the local priests attached to her church. Cooking included.
Good luck0 -
Was just about to suggest The Lady - always see ads there (enter a lot of comps through it, not something I tend to actually read!).

''Sounds like a wife to me....''Similar - but hopefully not entitled to half my assets!?
How similar...?0 -
I live in Devon, and there are plenty of companies around that service holiday homes - cleaning, laundry, provide shopping and/or evening meals/packed lunches etc. Obviously, this is for people on holiday, but I'm sure that you would be able to find a similar regular service to suit without having someone live-in. Assuming this isn't a total wind-up of course. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
