Black horse debt ''written off''

In 2010 I took out finance on a new car which was written off by a 'friend' therefore insurance and what not didnt pay out leaving me with no car a hefty bill and the finance to pay. I struggled to meet the finance payment and after fixing the car agreed for black horse to take the car back and I'd pay back whatever was outstanding monthly , which at first was about 800£. A direct debit was 'set up' by themselves and I thought nothing more on the matter. 3 months later I get a debt collector saying my debt was sold on and I now have to start paying them instead of blackhorse after black horse not wanting to help at all I decide to start paying them. 3 months later again I get a new debt collector who states they now own the debt which has risen to about 3000 at this point!! Black horse again have no record of me even existing and the old debt collector gives the same answer! I start an agreement with them paying by direct debit and all is well until the direct debits stop coming out lloyds tsb have there split and i seem to be lost in the middle somewhere with now know one wanting to help or do anything to help me sort this out , Which was fine until I try after years of saving for a deposit to get a mortgage and low and behold i get rejected because off a ''written off car finance debt''

Can anybody help me with this as it put a big strain on my new wife and soon mother to be!

What does it show as on your credit file?

If default, what's the date? Debts stay on file 6 years from the default date.

Debt collectors should not add unjustified charges. You should write demanding a full statement of account since it was written off.

There may be various complaint options once we get a bit more info.

From a quick look, it uses Call credit. The least used CRA.

Waste of money, as Noddle does that for free.

You need to get your £2 statutory report from Equifax and Experian.

Experian normally post you a code.

You could get a trial of their monthly product, then cancel.

Equifax also offer a free trial.

When you know how old your default is you will have a better idea of whether the mortgage plans will need to go completely on hold, or if your options are just more limited.

If your default is over 3 years old there are still options.

As far as I am aware most of the big name lenders aren't interested if you have a default, but some lenders (particularly Adermoor) disregard defaults if they are over 3 years old and could agree a mortgage if your overall credit record has been good. I heard that Woolwich may also disregard defaults over 3 years old but cant confirm this.

As always, your chance of getting a mortgage would be better if you have a larger deposit. If you can't get one for 5% then 10% or 15% may make the difference as it's less of a risk to the lender.

When did the car get written off? When did the debt first get sold on?
