    Snap-ant ....I do vaguely remember somestrips of wax being offered to go over the ends of the exposed brace wire...and also to help protect the inside of the mouth from rubbing

    I've just asked DS about them and he said that in honesty they were more hassle than they were benefit to him ...but then he never cut his mouth or tonge on the wire...
    It might be worth asking to see if anything can be offered...

    I should imagine that its very painful and ends up one of those things like a paper cut where you cant really see it but it b....y hurts!

    :) summer hols sounds like the ideal time for your son's routine :) can't imagine how DS3 would be if he ever needs a brace as it's a struggle to get him to let the dentist to look in his mouth :eek: thanks FC :) his appointment is at 11:45 so have to pick him up during the school day & then take him back to school after so lot's of disruption to routine on monday :rotfl:
    savings??? what are those??? :eek::eek::eek::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Well I hope it goes ok. So stressful!
    I'm fortunate to have savings, I know. A combination of never having had a mortgage (20 odd years in service accommodation) and me and OH being fortunate enough to have well paid jobs when we did work.

    do any of you have kids who have had braces fitted? just wondered if the nhs do clear ones now? i remember when i had braces as a teenager it was like having a mouth full of metal :rotfl:

    As far as i know, the NHS braces are metal 'railway tracks' and they don't do plastic.

    Ewww. Gross. Now I know why Quidco and Seabrook are giving the straight cut crisps away for free. They taste very very strange. But if it's free, one must not complain!

    Also, forgot to add, saw 2 huge blue crates of heavily reduced skincare at ex Netto Sada. Ranges included Sada, Vaseline, Dove, Olay, Johnson and Johnson, St Ives and various others. They all had red labels on them with a "was" price and a "now" price. The prices were between 25p and 400p.

    And moi received moi Bzzagent goody box with tortillas and various other bits and pieces. Well chuffed. Mimi party time tonight! Woohoo.

    FC, is there an appeal process you could go through with regards to getting NHS funded treatment? My BIL was refused a 'new' cancer treatment about 7 years ago due to it's expense. My sister appealed, and was successful in getting it funded after quite a battle. He had the treatment, and although will never be back to his former fitness, is doing very well. Defo worth a try.

    I would talk about this more but should have left the house about 15 mins ago. :eek:

    I expect I could appeal it. I don't reckon my chances of success would be very high though. It's not life threatening, or even affecting his health as such so wouldn't be an easy one. Maybe if I didn't have as full a plate at the moment, I'd consider it. As you say though, it's stressful and I don't need any more of that just now!!
    I'm glad your sister was successful with hers though. If it was something as serious as that, I'd go for it.

    Massive hugs after what must have been a very difficult day for your family :A
