He won't help, as according to the conspiracy theorists he is currently working in a Clapham chippy, with Princess Di and Jacko.......:T
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -

I think the OP is getting a bit of a hard time here. And what difference does it make if it's their first post, what are you implying?
Anyone can make a mistake, and probably the OP didn't realise customs charges start at a value as low as £15. Neither did I, has the threshold been changed lately? What have you said to the US company OP?0 -

THe threshold used to be £18 and was lowered to £15 in November 2011 so even at the old limit, VAT would still have been due.
Not knowing about the VAT is fair enough, but what isn't fair is refusing to accept the goods and thereby leaving the seller of those goods open to loss.0 -
Well it seems the OP is the one ending up with a loss, as it turns out.
'MSE requests that you give new posters a chance. Please be especially nice.'
Hmm, don't see any of you lot taking much notice of that.0 -

Did you not read the op? Just because they're new does not mean they're not at fault.
Read this in the opening post:I refused to pay this excessive charge, so they returned the item to sender
Who's faults that? And why should MSE's newbie avatar make people immune to their own responsibilities? Or make them not at fault because it's "nice"? I bet you can't answer that.0 -
Most of the ' Newbies' lately, come on here with a very large Chip on the shoulders, stating regs that do not exist, or trying to bend the regs to suit their own case.
A number of us, try to point them in the right direction, but if they don't accept it, or start being sarky, then as far as I am concerned, it is Open season.0 -
I don't think the kind of replies you often get on here are at all helpful. Tell the person if you don't think they have a case, yes, but why be nasty about it? All this does is put off new users from posting. I don't think the OP has come back, and probably they never will now. MSE is not supposed to be some kind of private club.
And to be honest, this kind of pointscoring is not what moneysavingexpert is for, and is fairly pointless. The impression is left that some of you get some kind of kick out of it - strange.0 -

I agree, it seems to be that people think they are long term posters so they have higher status and if someone challenges said opinon then they are not following advice so the person can be rude to them.0 -
Yes, and in this case, the poster didn't even dare to challenge them. This was their first post, they have not been back and they will possibly never return to MSE again for advice or anything else. All so a little gang of people can get a buzz from putting them down, (whilst gleefully 'thanking' each other for their 'useful' posts - ha!). A bit pathetic really, and surely not what MSE was set up for?0
