maybe it is a weird windows thing and I had another try & still can not get the linux box on the network properly.

    I have pc's X,Y,&Z.
    X,is xp only &
    Y,&,Z are dual boot.

Y is the 'good' linux that is acsessable by all, no problem.
Z is the 'naughty' linux one that doesn't allow X or Y (when in xp) acsess without a user/pass request but is strangely available to Y when that is booted in linux.

I had Z connected by wireless & have tried with direct connection to the router with no difference. When Z boots into xp it joins the network no problem.

I have all the network displayed on Z and also have tried 'connect to server' in which I put 'mshome'. An mshome icon apeared on the desktop and when clicked displayed the network as it is. The icon at the bottom states that it is connected. And it gives Y read/write acsess when Y is booted in linux yet in xp it locks its doors.
