Buy-to-let landlord defrauding benefits system - how do i report it?

My village is in a dire situation. The local "thug" is a total neighbour from hell and has made many people's live's a misery - some have left because of it.

One day, however, he was bragging about how him and his live-in girlfriend get over £3000 a month in benefits even though they own 5+ homes, renting them all out. He claims he lives alone in the house he rents from her and gets housing benefit for, she claimes to live in one of the houses she rents out and they don;t declare any of the income they get from any homes.

Just had a chat to my friend and we estimate they've got over £100,000 in the last 4 years fraudulently. We'd love to report it but if these people ever - EVER found out who made the call we'd probably have to move away. I've created a new user account just for this message just in case.

The question is would we ever be able to do this 100% anonymously.
Would they get a conviction? Or are these things v hard to prove?

Their neighbours from hell antics are worthy of a TV program especially as the lady is mildly famous or at least notorious.

Many thanks

anonimity is easy, a payasyougo sim (i think virgin are giving them away free with £5 credit) or payphone and a phone call, that said the government are very unlikely to tell said thug who reported them so you would be safe on that score.

problem comes when they start asking around on who grassed them up, if you dont really know them and tell nobody then you are sorted, if they are on the land registery they will get caught eventually if the government have a clue.

i think there are free phone numbers available though cant be bothered to search for them, if i recall they even offer rewards, something like £5000.

Evene when people give their names when giving info, these details are NEVER disclosed and are exempt from every data protection regulation (on the grounds of protecting the economy of the state).

Oh, and , they luve these type of cases - lots of money, lots of evidence, and getting someone who thinks he's the big I AM.

I'm sure the whole village would be delighted if you shopped this jerk!! people like that deserve to serve time at her majesty's pleasure! Don't worry about remaining anonymous, because i'm sure if others found out it was you, they wouldn't say anything! go ahead and do it asap!!!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

What are you main reasons behind this?
Are you jealous that they have all this property?
Have you ever paid cash for any work that you have had done?
If so you are just as guilty of defrauding the government of Tax.
I totally agree that they should be shopped but it must be for the right reasons.

i would have thought that owning 5 houses and getting rent and benefit was a bit different to avoiding a bit of VAT by paying cash !!!!
