Hi everyone
I know this post is going to be a bit like "tell me after the horse has bolted" so I apologise.
Generally if you are posting on here then you've probably had a parking charge notice.
However, one of the most pro-active activities you can now do is to take your annoyance and tell as many people as you can to
"make sure if you park somewhere where there is a parking operator involved then DO NOT go over the specified amount of time"
Tips to help:
Take a note of the time of entering the parking area, even better write yourself a small note and put it on the dashboard just as you would if you parked in a pay to stay car park with the leaving time - this will create a psychological reminder to help you.
Set the alarm on your phone / watch
Whatever method you use make sure it's something which will grab your attention.
Make sure you know the time you need to leave by -
Whatever you do DO NOT go over the specified time allowance.
There's a saying in retail for every disgruntled customer they will then go on to tell 10 more people, who will each then go on to tell 10 more people .... I'm sure you get the picture.
Don't get mad, get even

The most proactive activity you can do is to avoid retail sites that employ PPC scammers, and tell as many people as possible to do likewise.
Retailers/landowners don't want to know until it starts hitting them where it hurts - in the pocket.0 -
Yes that's perfectly true bod and I fully endorse this approach and I have told retailers (that I know of) that I won't be shopping with them again because of the parking operator.
Unfortunately people are attracted to shops and some don't even realise there are any parking 'restrictions' in place until it's too late so baby steps and all thatDMP member no 390

Getting even does not always mean it's desirable or even possible to avoid "going over time". At a local retail park it is possible to shop, visit a cinema, visit a "museum" attraction and eat in various places. Personally, I do not even try to (say) go to the cinema there and then have a pizza - and they thus lose my custom. But are you suggesting that visitors run out of the film, bolt a pizza down and trot back to their cars all because of a randomly assigned time limit. Or in a simpler example - and one I have experienced personally, in choosing significant quantities of "home-improvement" materials from a big store (read kitchen) - do you expect to be "fined" after making a £5000 + expenditure - or cut short a detailed financial decision to accommodate parking companies.
I would respectfully suggest that your advice is as unreasonable as the charges these parking companies try and make.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. You obviously advocate going over the time limits then James? and by your own admission you don't go to the cinema and go for a pizza so you already curb your activities accordingly and the pizza parlour loses your custom.
I prefer the option of peter-the-piper, however if your activities will take you over the time limit then just abstain. The retailers will soon get the message.DMP member no 390

The parking operators do not care one jot how much money you have spent, what service you are buying. They are out to get your money pure and simpleDMP member no 390

I have done this myself in ALDI, they said this till is closing I explained I had 5 minutes to get out of the car park.
Cost me a pound but the reaction was priceless :rotfl:We’ve had to remove your signature because your opinion differs from ours. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why you can not have your own opinion on here and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I seek avoid trouble, but you need to set your proposal against the mentality of playing victim to their scamming activities. I would not hesitate to go "over time" if I needed to.
You are simply playing second fiddle to the scammers and in a sense legitimising their procedures.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. This we need more of :T
James, if by 'legitimising their procedures' you mean cutting off their life blood then yes, that is exactly what I mean. Some people need reminding NOT to go over the time limits, no overstay = no parking charge = no profits. I cannot be any clearer.
Unlike you, not every driver out there wants to go "over time" and some are grateful for the reminder. Some people, believe it or not, don't actually want to go through the hassle of having to deal with parking charge notices. Who'd have thought eh?DMP member no 390

Indeed I do not mean that, except by means that you have not considered - hitting them in the pocket via appeals, POPLA and the court! You choose to put words in my mouth. You are giving validity to the made-up rules of the parking companies and advocating "running scared" of them.
A thorough review of their activities is what is needed, not rolling over and playing their game.
You sound like someone who is hoping to encourage users of retail parks to hurry through their business so that they can "maximise" customers at any cost to convenience or business relationships - not to mention the protected characteristics of someone who either permanently or temporarily cannot hurry.
I expect you'd say this lady should have paid attention to her "reminder" instead of helping, for instance:
