Thank you so much, that is brilliant.  I think we are very nearly there.  Should I right 'a paper apart' on the inventory as well as para 5 - or leave it blank?

If I am submitting the inventory on a word doc which is two separate sheets of paper - should I number them the way they want their form to be C1/1 C1/2 I think?  And do I need to add any reference on the inventory as to who and what it is for or simply enclose under that page in the C1 itself?

Thank you for the advice, it is very much appreciated.

Be aware that different courts can have different acceptance standards so there is no guarantee of acceptance.

Identification on the word document explaining what it is and the number of pages would seem a good option. On the printed C1 inventory you could write ‘See a paper apart’ within the inventory.

  • So I submitted my C1 form for the first time on the 29th July, after lots of help from you good people. I've just had a call today to say Confirmation has been granted. I have now made the payment and can pick up the paperwork from next Monday. I can't thank everyone enough for all the help and advice that's been given on this forum, without which I would never have managed this. A special thanks to @buddy9, you've been a Godsend, quite literally!

Thank you so much buddy 9.  We have gone for it and hopefully it will be ok this time.  I understand every court is different.  I am assuming as we haven't heard back immediately chucking it back at us (happened the first time) we are certainly closer to being ok and they have to actually look at it.  Fingers crossed. Thanks

Hi Thank you for all the advice, we have picked up the grant of confirmation this morning.  Particular thanks to buddy 9.  Very much appreciated.

Does anyone know, the step where it is suggested you put an ad in the Edinburgh Gazette to make a public announcement, is that a legal requirement or just a recommendation in order to make sure no one wants to contest the will or make a claim etc?  That is simply not going to happen in our circumstances.  Are we ok to leave things as they are with the original death notice in the local paper? Thanks

No requirement for an executor to advertise in the Gazette for a Scottish estate.

The guidance note in the Gazette is itself incorrect for Scotland

Longtime lurker first time poster! 👀 Thank you to all of the above for the numerous clarifications and moral support. I'm assisting my dad with the completion of C1 for my mum's estate and really hoping to pass first time (Aberdeen)! 😅

    Shares: number x price (p) = total in £
Share prices are typically given in pence. Meanwhile the running total header requires a £ value. Should I convert the "price of shares" to £ for consistency, or include the typical/required denominations in both boxes for clarity? I believe the latter is better, even though it results in a redundant £ sign in the right column (below). Is this the kind of formatting quirk that might merit a rejection of the form?

    Survivorship clause
I have read that some clerks like the values and details of heritable estates to be included on the form even where there is a Survivorship Clause (meaning that said estate is excluded from the C1 total). I plan to give the full details as though it were to be included for confirmation, with "Nil" as the value for the heritable estate in the Description column. But this is definitely the more is more option (below). Thoughts?

    ESTATE IN SCOTLAND

    Heritable Estate in Scotland

Dwelling house at [address], being the subjects described in the Disposition by [names] and [names], presented and recorded in the General Register of Sasines, County of Aberdeen, [date], [book #] [Folio #], valued by [name], Property Sales Consultant at [Estate Agency], on [date].

    Value of [address]: £xxx,xxx.
Deceased's one half pro indiviso share: £xxx, xxx.

    Nil (Survivorship Destination)

    THANK YOU! 🙏

    Car
Forgot to add: am I correct in my understanding that a car is a chattel, and as such should be included under "Moveable Estate"? And since it was registered solely in the name of the deceased, it should be listed at its entire value -- rather than at 50% like the other moveable assets owned in common by the deceased and the surviving spouse? Likewise, a car registered solely in the name of the surviving spouse can be omitted from C1 altogether? Thank in advance.

I cannot see any issues with your share values shown.

You say you are intending to show an entry for heritage with a survivorship clause and show a nil value. But your example does not have survivorship and does not have a nil value.?
