If there are accounts with the same bank you should not need a certificate for each account, only for each bank

Regardless of what the website says, the normal practice seems to be include your phone contact details and when approved you receive a phone call advising the amount and asking for payment by card.

  • Hi. This thread has been SO helpful! I'm almost ready to submit the C1 for my mum's estate. My mum had life insurance policies with SunLife who aren't branch based and have a registered address in England. Do I list these policies as moveable estate in Scotland, as my mum was domiciled in Scotland, or as personal estate in England? I've spent ages on the form and don't want it to be rejected because I've listed policies in the wrong country! Thank you in advance.

Would appreciate advice on a small detail on the inventory for completeness. Where there is a nil value described in the first column eg. Heritable Property England and Wales: Nil  - do you have to also put 0.00 in line with this entry in the last column where all values are listed? I know its a small point but taking forms to sheriff court tomorrow so hoping it goes well and gets accepted

I suggest that if you are ordering your inventory in a way that includes nil entries, do not place zeros in the end column.

Two pages back on this thread there is a similar question.
  • Hi everyone, can't thank the helpers in this thread enough. I am currently attempting to get grant of confirmation for my late grandmother's estate. It took a long time to here back from all organisations I needed to liase with. As a result I am now a year down the road from her passing. My issues are relating to assests she has and how I ensure they are accurately recorded in the inventory.

When my grandmother initially passed she had 4 bank accounts and a personal investment plan through a subsidary of one of her banks. I went into the banks and let them know of her passing. One bank was very helpful and advised me I would need an executor account. So I decided to just open that with them and proceed. I was under the impression I couldn't move any assets until I had the grant. The investment company she had an investment with asked me the executor account details, which I duly provided. They have since notified me that they have transfered the money into this account. I was a bit shocked. I visited the branch to find out they had transfered both accounts balances to this executor account also.

My questions are related to this. How do I record this in her inventory. Do i use the account details of the accounts she held prior to her passing? Or do I use the account details of the executor account that now contains the money?

She was also due a refund from her RCH as she had paid for a period during which she passed away. They still have this money as again I was under the impression I couldn't move any money. How should I record this money that is due to her also?

Finally, I was joint executor nominate along with my Aunt. She passed away prior to my grandmother. As a result her portion of the estate passes to her children. Do I have to provide details of this anywhere in the application. From previous posts here I am already aware of how to record her passing and have an orignal death certificate also.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you guys could provide.

Presuming that you do need Confirmation.

The inventory is a statement of assets at the date of death. So list the original bank accounts and investment plan with their values (including interest if appropriate) as valued at the date of death. Do not reference the later opened executor account.

I don’t know what RCH is but if there is an overpayment and a refund is due, then list it as such.

If a portion of the estate passes to predeceased aunt’s children, no detail of this is shown on the C1.

  • Thank you very much for the prompt reply. By RCH I meant residential care home. Your help in this thread is invaluable. I will proceed with the application and see how I get on.
  • I thought I’d give an update on my application which I submitted on the 22nd May with the help of this forum, and in particular Buddy9.

My application was approved on the first attempt.

Every bit of advice Buddy9 gave with regards to the wording requirements was spot on.

Thank you so much for your help Buddy9, very much appreciated.

hi with thanks to buddy9 i managed to complete the application and took it to glasgow sheriff court about 2 weeks ago. Briefly check through said looks okay but caveated
that with review by depite , confirmed my Id. Said would  be reviewed and contacted for fee payment in due course unless any amendments required. Nothing back so far so hoping it’s been accepted
okay but I am maybe being too optimistic and it’s maybe not been reviewed in detail yet. anyone know the process, how long it take to review and at what stage they contact you for payment. I do understand it can take many weeks but just
wonderd if completeness checks are done first and returned fairly quickly for any corrections
requird so might have heard by now of errors
    Thanks
