If you have either a Skoda or vw or seat with the 1.2 three cylinder engine be warned change the oil when you should I've just done one at work basically the timing chain jumped a tooth and it's very common problem basically the tensioner goes weak and especially if the engine idles a while the chain jumps a tooth and it cuts out and obviously won't restart it took some finding but speaking to the dealer it's very common on the three cylinder engine fortunately thou it doesn't bend the valves the timing chain has to be replaced and you get new sprockets tensioner and a modified guide rail parts cost is around £120 mark this one actually failed when the car was in for other repairs totally unrelated

Vauxhalls 3 cylinder 1.0 litre as used in the Corsa is exactly the same, and it makes no difference how often you change the oil, they still start to rattle at about 40,000 miles.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If you lay out your post out in an easy to read manner, guess what, it will be easier to read. More people will then read it therefore your very valid and useful comments will reach a wider audience which I am sure is what you wanted to achieve in the first place.

I change the oil and filter on all my cars at 5k intervals (mostly motorway driving) regardless of when the book says it should be done.

It's no secret manufacturers stretch out the service intervals to appeal to people trying to save money

Punctuation is not needed when writing in the basically format, basically.

were not here to teach or point out grammar or punctuation mistakes it goes against the grain of the forum rules. you could have ofcourse quoted the OP split it up how you liked it then posted your help. not criticize their delivery of the post.

1.0/1.2 3 cyl chain driven engines have a tendancy to rip through chain tensioners when the oil ports on the cam are blocked due to lack of maintenance, like changing the oil but not the paper element oil filter which degrades and splits up resulting in blockages of the oil feed ports, its the same for VVT dephaser type cam pullies their fed with oil on the cam to keep them operational when this is reduced or cut off, it results in damage.

    Your post proves the point:rotfl:
you read the op as asking for help, I read it as a statement proving that its not clear.

Don't know what your trying to say TBH I read it as the OP was warning us and other readers of the 1.2 3 cyl engine has a problem with tensioners and could be costly and a possible reason not to start seems OP is in the mechanics trade. I simply added that its not a surprise, and some back ground on why they may go, and a hint to why some VVT engines also suffer poor oil!.
