Three cylinder vw engine problem

Might benefit from some spacing.
If you have either a Skoda, VW or Seat with the 1.2 three cylinder engine be warned to change the oil when you should.
I've just done one at work and basically the timing chain jumped a tooth and it's very common problem.
Basically the tensioner goes weak, especially if the engine idles, while the chain jumps a tooth and it cuts out and obviously won't restart.
It took some finding, but speaking to the dealer it's very common on the three cylinder engine. Fortunately though, it doesn't bend the valves and the timing chain has to be replaced. You can get new a sprocket tensioner and a modified guide rail.
The parts cost is around the £120 mark, this one actually failed when the car was in for other repairs which were totally unrelated.0
