Is decking just a fad?

I don't have any issues with decking visually, but its bloody lethal stuff when its wet...0

totally drooling looking at those 2 decking pics. The second one is amazing. Wonder what that would cost?0

If I raise the level outside, I risk breaching the DPC with all the potential issues that might cause.
Besides Decking, what options do I have?
We had this problem U shaped property with one arm of the U much lower. The previous owners had laid ugly grey pavers and left a large gap with a downward sloping concrete edge at the lower side , looked horrible and poor use of space. We laid decking over this taking it almost to the wall , transformed the garden. I like decking, it's warm underfoot and cleaned every year it never becomes slippery. I would imagine rodents love it , we had problems with mice before we had decking Tbh haven't noticed it getting worse sinceVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -

Some nice pics on houzz too if you type decking.
I think I'm convinced not to put decking on our wide patio. The thought of slipping, green mould and especially the rodents is enough to put me off. I'm a lazy ****** as it is, doubt I would get round to maintaining it so would be more costly to have longer term. My poor summer garden table from B&Q is already falling apart! But like I say, might put it in te corner somewhere at the back as part of a secret garden or something. Good point about its usefulness for flattening out a piece of land.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
I have a decent sized decking area...
I don't have a problem with mice or rats!
Although I do have a problem with an epic amount of cats around our area!0 -
Pusssy galore eh?Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

I'm probably in the minority here but I dont like paving, especially if it doesnt look a natural garden material, and prefer the look of decking. I'm doing up my garden at the mo and I'm replacing the paving with stones near my house (good burglar deterrant!) and decking the end for the entertaining area.
It's all personal preferences though isnt it? even if you didnt like decking though it cant be too hard to dispose of...unlike the hard work that is removing my almost fully paved garden :S0
