A garden is no place for industrial quantities of plastic or decking. It's no wonder there are no butterflies or bees to be seen these days.

And yes, decking will go out of fashion, mainly because it is naff and chavvy.

    What's your alternative suggestion?
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Call me old fashioned or even an OCD sufferer - but I like my grout lines to line up :D

Fad has nothing whatever to do with it. If you like it then you have it, if you don't like it then you don't.
In any event, it has been around long enough to no longer be a fad.
Making stupid statements about chavs is completely out of order.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Depends on the design I would say.

Rectangles of planks outside your door will always look plain and boring, but if you have some money and get creative with it, it can be very nice indeed.

Wouldn't say no to a nice round design.

Was going to say that as well. How on earth can decking be chavvy?! Whether you like it or not is down to taste but it can be anything from rubbish to extremely stylish looking.
For this reason I'd also say its nothing to do with fashion. If its done well in the right place it will always look good. If its done badly in the wrong place it will look crap regardless of whether its in fashion.

I want the outside of my house to be at the same level as the kitchen, currently there is a drop of just over a foot.

If I raise the level outside, I risk breaching the DPC with all the potential issues that might cause.
Besides Decking, what options do I have?
