Renault, Peugeot, Citoren, Nissan used to do 24 hour test drives.

IF you booked the Renaut one for a Friday, you had the car until Monday morning!

I happened to book a new Laguna estate for a 24 hour test drive in 2007 (when this shape came out)

    - just happened to be the weekend we was moving house..

    Lexus are doing one:

Wonder if there are any Alan Partridge conventions coming up..

There are worse cars to have for 24hours. Wonder if Lexus would get in touch if you said you lived in Normanton, Derby?

Call Citroen UK, they'll be able to source an auto if available from the demo fleet nationally. To be honest I think you may struggle to get the auto, not so much the 24 hour test drive if approached in the right way.

Certainly Ford and BMW offer 24/48 hour test drives but it depends very much on the customer whether you will get one. Xx

An idea may be to simply rent the vehicle you are interested in for a long weekend.

Maybe not as cheap as a free testdrive.

But it does seem longer testdrives are becoming rare.

Likely due to some people misusing the offer.

I known 72 hour test drives are available for chauffeurs and you can ise thw car for work.

Though the cars involved are usually the vehicles provided by chauffeur deal lease agreements for when your vehicle breaks down so they are specific vehicles owned by the manufacturer of certain approved hire companies.

A lot of the 24hr and 48hr test drives have vanished due to people treating it as a free car hire service.

Best bet is to go down and ask if you can have an extended test drive, couple of hours should be enough to assess if the car fits your requirements.
  • Mini do them, our neighbours had a mini on an extended test-drive for 24 hours a couple of weeks ago.

i too was given the keys and drove around myself. but apparantly for MSE users this voids test drive insurance and the dealer would have had his car repod and me given a fine/points if i was pulled over.

dont think it would be worth the time to blag your way to getting an extended "test drive" - you'll have to jump through the sales process and make yourself look like a very likely byer.

just hire the car you want?

Are there any hire companies that actually guarantee the car though? All the ones I've looked at have a "or similar" clause.

I don't think that's true at all. Certainly it's the responsibility of the driver to make sure he's insured to drive but most dealer's insurance will cover the driver of an unaccompanied vehicle, as long as you sign their insurance documentation and excess waivers.

Or indeed allow you to prove your insurance will cover it, or even charge you a small fee to be insured.

Rarely via an online booking but if you actually call the local office you'll be collecting it from and book with them you normally can get exactly what you want.

Personally I wouldnt look to spend my money on this though as its exactly why dealerships exist and their costs are all built into the cost of the cars.

Our current car is a 2 seater and the wife at the time was only a learner. They wanted to do the test drive as accompanied which I wasnt really bothered about but the wife also wanted to experience what it would be like "on the move" but naturally in the passenger seat.

No issues arranging a test drive for myself but the dealer got very shirty about having to drive the wife about. Ended up calling another dealer who was very happy to win the business (not only that but after agreeing a price he called back 2 days later to advise he'd managed to get it even lower than we'd agreed)
