Number of interviews before you were offered a job?

Just wondered how many interviews people here had had before they got an offer? I don't mean where they've had to have a series of interviews for the same company, I mean in individual applications.

Back in the olden days I would tend only to have to apply for about three jobs to get at least one of them, sometimes even fewer. My most recent job hunt 2.5 years ago took two years and more like 20 applications. (I know thats not many in that period but I was looking for something specific and already had a very small P/T job plus had some maternity leave) Times have changed.

Last two jobs below, I think most times I have had at least two interviews.

Job 1 - 2 interviews = telephone interview, face to face interview
Job 2 - 4 interviews = telephone interview, face to face interview, video call interview, telephone interview.

How many jobs were you interviewed for?

I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a failure compared to everyone else! I've had 4 interviews and no offers so far. :o

I'm wondering whether people who generally do quite well are more likely to reply though. After all, if 5 people are interviewed for a job then there is only a 20% chance of getting it. People who have posted on this thread so far seem to have done much better - apart from me!

i do very well at interviews my problem was getting the interview on paper i dont look highly amazing but i seem to be able to turn it around in person i sent out a couple of hundred applications and CVs to get those 3 interviews

the best thing I ever did was shout at a room of candidates (i know it sounds bad)
one of the team challenges was to put back together 2 newspapers that had been spread all over the room. everyone found a sheet and was randomly shouting and asking for the next page. i shouted stop organised people with pages from one paper on the left and the other on the right got all ones with pages 1-5 at the front 6-10 next bit down etc

one of the people hiring (who is now a good friend) told me that it was performing in that way that got me the job - not a lot of people can do that though they have done 30-40 group interviews over the years and i was the only one who took charge (the group interview also included people applying for more senior positions including team leaders) and my group are still the record holders for speed and accuracy :) and i was the only one out of 18 offered a job

It used to be very easy and an interview often only contained one question if you answered yes you got the job, now it seems that HR need to justify their existence:

Last job: 2hr Interview with agency, 2hr interview with Director, Final interview and presentation to MD and 3 other directors over a 3 month period.
Job I am after currently: 1 hr interview with Agency, 1 hr conf call with HR Director, 3hr interview with Director, final stage if selected is conversation with the big cheese.

I think I've probably had job offers from about 50% of job interviews, and about 25% of applications.

Well, to be clear, I mean 50% of jobs interviewed for. One bank gave me 33 interviews before offering me a job.

Yes but plenty of jobs I applied for I never got as far as interview, I sometimes wonder if it's just pot luck rather than skill and experience lol

I've very genuinely lost count of the amount of interviews that I've had in the last year, probably over 50, certainly over 10 during this April just gone. And as yet not one of them has come back with a job offer.

I hope to receive a decision regarding my last interview this week, and I also have a 3 further interviews booked for this month.

It's immensely dispiriting at times, but I know that I just have to keep chipping away at it.
