I agree there euro, health is more important than any win
Good job your mum recognised the signs early and got you treatment.
Yeah, I was very lucky. It meant I was also lucky enough to escape any lasting problems from it (like the lingering nerve pain).
Having had it myself, I was also able to recognise the blisters on OH's back when he got it a few years ago. The first doc he saw insisted it couldn't be that because it was in the centre of his body, and shingles usually always starts on either one side of the body or the other. I convinced him to go back the next day and see a different doctor who confirmed it definitely was shingles. The first 48 hours are critical if you want to shorten the lifespan of the illness.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Yeah ellemm, I really hope he's feeling better soon and without any lasting effects xx
The 'spots' are actually little blisters and look very much like little blisters. They tend to be itchy (which is the only reason I mentioned mine to my Mum in the first place!). They can also start anywhere on the body. OH's was in the centre, lower part of his back. Mine started on the back of my upper left leg, and my Mum's (she's had it also), started on her right shoulder. You can also have it more than once.
The chickenpox virus lies dormant in your body. We never fully get rid of it. This can lead to it reappearing as Shingles in later life during times of extreme stress/low immune system.
Also, contrary to popular belief, you can in fact have chicken pox more than once. But, I will stress that this is very, very rare.
Ellemm, calamine lotion really helps for the itching if it gets to be unbearable.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
That's what DD's was like, little itchy blisters. She had it for months and was in pain with them and had it on various parts of her body. My doctors kept saying it was nothing to worry about, just part of her eczema which rarely bothered her! It wasn't until I took her to a drop in they told me it was a second form of chicken pox like shingles and although it wasn't contagious, lots of kids had it! He gave her strong antibiotics and it cleared up fairly quick! 3 times I took her to my own gp too!
I know bicarbonate of soda in warm bath helps relieve itching and scarring in chicken pox, I wonder if it helps your DH ellemm for shingles?Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0 -
Wingo chicken pox and shingles is a virus antibiotics do not work it is not an infection0

Well the dr had given her some antibiotics and cream too as she was so low, they did help whichever it was!
DD is starting to get frantic over the Ebola virus and I keep telling her not to worry. After watching the news earlier, looks like we are on alert but told not to panic. It's so awful to see those people who have the Ebola, poor souls.Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0 -

Morning! After the rain yesterday evening, it has dried up nicely but a little breezy.
Sax, if one of your children was diagnosed with Ebola would you agree to them being shot? Unlikely - my heart goes out to the sufferers and their families. It is an awful disease and I hope a cure can be found soon!
Enjoy your morning xxx:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -

Morning, wet and windy here again. My son got shingles when he was 11,started in his lower back as a prickly feeling but couldn't see anything there. Then the blisters appeared and he had some on his stomach appear. The Dr gave him some pills and cream. We had to halve the pills as they were for adults, didn't do them for kids then.He said it was caused by stress due to the bullying at school. My mum used to get shingles on her face, thought it was cold sores to start with but doc said it was shingles.I know they can be very painful.0
