cash machine didn't pay out

About 10 days ago, my mum went to a post office ATM machine to draw out £300, everything went through, even got receipt but no money was given from the machine, it was also debited from balance. The ATM started to reboot the went off all together.. She then went to the counter but the last at the post office said it was nothing to do with them and gave her a helpline number. My mum decided to go into her bank (natwest) straightaway where she filled a claim form in and was told she would have to wait for it to be audited then the money would go back into her account and it could take upto a week. Over a week later she returned to the bank to be told by another staff member that it could take well over a week and the other staff member shouldn't of said within a week. My mum is a pensioner who works, she desperately needs the money, she has spent the last few nights crying. Surely this isn't right it is her money she's done nothing wrong. Is there a way she can get her money back faster, and I think she should get compensation for this, it's so wrong.. Daylight robbery:(

She can put in a complaint but that will not necessarily speed things up. In the meantime can you not lend her some money, make sure she has whatever she needs?0

She can ask the bank for an overdraft extension to cover this money for the short term. Apart from that it's just a waiting game. They have to audit the machine to find the money and that just takes time. I bet next time she won't be taking out so much... £300 is quite a bit that a cheque or debit card couldn't be used for. Can you lend her the money?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I didn't think people's hard earned money could be taken just like that, throgh no fault of their own. I think it is disgusting really it is all she had0 -

I appreciate it is a nasty situation, but unfortunately it is just something that has happened... it isn't really anyones fault.
The money hasn't actually been taken. A machine has gone wrong. The money WILL go back into her account, but it takes some time.0 -
This is a NAT WEST ATM? There is a maximum limit of £250 on these - how did she get to the stage where she could withdraw so much. When I have tried, the maximum amount withdrawable is £200 on the first screen and a button for "OTHER AMOUNTS". This latter feature is limited to £250 as a maximum......I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0

It was a natwest card not a natwest machine. The limit may be down to the individual card as my daily limit is £300."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

This happened to me via Nationwide.
It was resolved within 3 days.0 -
Post Office ATMs are often run by The Bank Of Ireland.0

Same thing happened to me a few years ago, after realising the machine hadn't coughed my money up I went to another machine only to find out it had been debited from my account.
I went into my bank and told them what had happened, I had to fill out a claim form as well, they said the till roll from the machine would have to be asked for as it wasn't one of their machines, that would then have to be audited with money dispensed and if the two discrepancies tallied then I would be refunded. This process I was told could take up to 4 weeks to complete.
I finally got credited three weeks after the incident.
Case of just having to wait and let things pan out, nothing you can do to speed things up as far as I am aware of.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
