Surely Latvia, in spite of its declining population, is free to try to expand its exporting businesses and markets? Yes, a lot of its workers have gone overseas, but that just leaves opportunities for those who are left behind workwise.
Even at the height of the recession, Germany, who had a declining population, (though presumably due to migration from the A8, Romania and Bulgaria, this has been reversed now), still managed drops in their youth unemployment and overall unemployment levels. The only reason for that is the massive amount of funds coming into Germany at any one time from their exports. Europe has undergone changing boundaries for hundreds of years. Eastern Ukraine looks towards Moscow. While the West towards Berlin. That's the nature of the populace and their history\culture.0 -

And that may well deter countries from investing in the Baltic States. If Russia can annex the Crimea, who is to say they can't annex the rest of the former Soviet Union? I don't see the West rushing to come to Ukraine's aid at the moment. Can they be trusted to come to any of the rest of Eastern Europe's aid if Russia decides to invade them?
People will probably go "oh, that would never happen", but it seems to take so little to start a war. Look at WW1, - didn't that start over a single assassination? Not to mention how little it took to plunge Syria into a long civil war.0 -
As the EU referendum campaign is about to start, the topics/data here will again become pertinent to the debate.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Another case of perception being extremely different to reality.

Just when you thought they couldn't get any crazier.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

What is it that makes you think that average wages are going to rise to a third of the average house price in Aberdeen in the near future then?If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.0 -
